Hello Everyone, I'm new to the forum.

I was wondering if anyone had played or is a member of Hampshire golf club in Andover.
I currently live in Surrey but I'm moving to Andover in 4 weeks time and was looking into courses in the area.
I'm looking at becoming a member of a local club and was wondering what it was like there.
I'm also looking at obtaining a proper handicap because I've never had one in the 20 years on and off of playing.
Is this a good club to join or is there better in the area.

Thanks

Hi , i have played it and to be honest its not much , look at courses near salisbury too like High Post , Salisbury & South Wilts , You also have Test valley which is not too far , these are better courses and it depends how much driving you want to do ................EYG

I had a quick look on the website and the course overview. The aerial pictures suggest to me you would need do the golfing equivalent of the estate agents recommendation - 'internal viewing essential'. The pictures don't sell it.

I live about 15 miles from Andover and have a lot of golf mates in this area, not one of them has ever suggested playing there. read into that what you will!

JCW Mentioned Test Valley, i played there a while back and i really enjoyed it! might be worth a look!

Played the Hampshire quite a few times when I lived in the area, not to bad a course but a bit featureless. The High Post is a cracking course but is nearer Salisbury than Andover so it depends how far you want to travel. The High Post is slightly more money than The Hampshire. You could also look at Tidworth garrison course which is another lovely track and only about 15-20 minutes from Andover.

Thanks for your replies.
I might give it a try when I move down there and see what I think.
I don't mind travelling a bit further afield for a better course so I think I'm going to look into the other suggestions.

Thanks again

Wreybrook Park, a nice course just north of Basingstoke has recently been through some changes - a few long par 4s; worth a look I'd say.

Weybrook is a bit of a trek from Andover i would say, i imagine most people would want their club under 30 mins away.

Another roughly andover i played years ago, was Upavon. not sure what its like these days, but was quite enjoyable if i remember correctly.
