Hi guys

I thought this would be the place to ask about hair clippers as there are a few folically challenged amongst us.

A little while back I decided it was time to change my clippers of many years. I bought a pair that was the same make from Argos but the first time I tried them they ripped my hair to shreds and just wouldnt cut at all smoothly. Went bak and bought another set and the same thing happened. After much reading of reviews online I still couldnt come up with a set that everyone liked. Some would rave about them and others would say they were rubbish.

Anyhow I bought another set and low and behold they dont cut very well at all and snag when coming up against hair that was cut only 2 weeks before. I might add I cut without any attachments so its down to the bone more or less.

Any help with recommendations would be great please. I dont need beard trimmers or any fancy bits and bobs , just a set to cut my hair without any of the no1-8 clipper thingys on.

Thanks in advance (money no object btw)

Jammy, there is a fine tuning mechanism on clippers, if its out it will pull your hair out, when set correctly it is a whole lot more comfortable. Saying that, my missus does mine and after 2 years is still a bit hit and miss. :D

My Good Lady is a mobile hairdresser and I keep my hair short due to similar issues ie not wanting to look like an egg in a nest and comb overs never really having appealed!!!

The best sort of clippers are Wahl - shes had hers 20 years and they are bullet proof - they have got the guards 1/2/3/4 etc but once you find whats suits you just leave the relevant one on.
The problems you are having are due to sh*t blades and no oil on them, they do need looking after.

Hope this helps

I got a set of clippers from Argos about 7 years ago and they are still going great although I still worry about HID doing it for me. Gone down to a #1 now as the battle has been well and truly lost and a #2 just didn't look right

I was a hairdresser and the WAHL Clippers are the dogs doo-dars. Not cheap mind. Cost nearly 100 quid trade. But will last forever. So cheap in the long run. As they say buy cheap buy twice.

I also got mine from Argos, about £30 come with a box with load of attachments. I use #7 all over works a treat and has (touch wood) been very reliable. Must be about 8 years old now.

Try these - Wahl Balding Clippers - link

I bought mine just over three years ago and use them to cut my hair every 7 to 10 days and also to trim my beard stubble every two days.

If they were to blow up, I'd buy another set tomorrow without question!

Highly recommended.

If money is no object these guys actually invented the clipper or at lease the mechanism thats in it.

I have had many sets of clippers and got some last month from currys as I was in getting a new fridge. They are Babalist they were very cheep and are cordless(as a side note). They seem to cut easier than any clippers I have ever had.

I think it is these.

PS I have all my hair, I just like to cut it short :D... Honest!

Thanks for all the replies fellas

I'll have a look at the Wahl ones but I dont really need a full baldy domehead shave yet , but they might have ones that leave a small layer.

They will all come with grades

I shave my head every week to keep it short.

I have a cheap set, £20 from boots 5 years ago. If you clean them after each use, keep the blades slightly oiled, and adjust the tune slot when needed you sohuld get years of service out of a pair.

But before these I had Wahl clippers, £70 i paid for them, only broke when dropped them shaving my head outside in the garden. They are the best and cost wise a better purchse. I will be getting another set of Wahl in a few months, maybe Christmas present.

Must say think of the saving, the cost is irrelevant then. £5 a cut, every week, £208 a year, over 5 years £1040.

5 years use minimum of top Wahl clippers, cost £150 includes sharpening once a year and replacement oils. No brainer.

Just though I've saved a fortune, not paid for a cut since 2001. New kit me thinks
