Had a fitting

So, went off to Nicky Lumb in Bristol to get fitted for some new irons. Mine just seem to be ballooning and I'm unsure if its costing me some distance.
Tbh m happy with my game, just could do with being able to hit my 4/5 iron better to reach those longer par 4s consistantly.
Told him what I was after and after seeing my 6/7 iron, got me trying a few clubs. Was hitting it pretty bad as I was a tad nervous (don't know why). Felt even worse after I tried the callaway x hot, I was blasting it some good distance, the 6 iron was going about 178 yds carry, whilst mine was going 154 yds carry. This was with the stock R flex shaft, with my SS of 84mph.
However, I just didn't like the look of the iron, too ugly for my liking, I did try some nice looking irons, but as. Said wasn't hitting it great, so he said I'd be silly to buy irons that are too good for me, all the numbers say I should buy the x hots with 2 deg upright in R.
Now I'm not sure what to do, I hot some i20s and g25s into a net and they both felt nice, but will I struggle with the longer irons in the i20s? Or are they ok?
If I was 2 deg upright with the callaway, should I be roughly the same with ping? Also, have read the CFS shaft with ping, whilst decent, I might be better off with Stiff, over Reg. the reg 7 iron I hit today, still seemed quite high

Please feel free to comment and assist

Thanks

What is the point in going for a fitting, finding out what are best for you, and then not getting them?
The height isn't that important if you are hitting them well.
Is the look all that important if you are hitting them well?
Did you hit any other clubs in the callys or just the 6 iron?

I'd imagine the set-up (2* upright etc will be the same in most clubs).

When I was deciding between the Ping G20 and TM Burner irons I started out loving the pretty burner and turning my nose up at the clunkier G20. Took a demo 7 iron of both on the course for a couple of rounds and amazing how gradually the Ping started to look like my best friend and so easy to hit and forgiving. I recall our Par 3 16th and hitting the G20 and never looking at the burner again...

What works best starts to look best in my experience!

Had a fitting Saturday and the static fit (wrist to floor vs height) came out as green spot which is 2.25 degrees upright. Nervous as that seemed excessive but the numbers proved G25 was best for me even though I was desperate for the I20 to be the better choice. The static fit verified with impact tape and impact board and mark bang in the middle so the guy made a good call

How much forgiving we're the g25s over the i20s? The i20s are very much a better players iron imo, with the g25 suitable from high to low. Mark Crossfield rates them highly too

The G25''s were so easy to hit. I thought the I20's were a little like my TM TP's and off centre shots still went but there was a noticeable loss of distance. Miss the centre on the G25 and they still flew. Better for an erratic striker like me even though I wasn't sold on their looks. Sadly there are times when you just have to accept that the numbers don't lie. Two different fittings and both tell me the G25 is best. Time to get past the looks and accept they are best for me

I went for a fitting last week myself and as soon as I set foot on the range the guy was shoving the X hots down my throat. Despite hitting the ball cleaner and further with other clubs, the X hots always came out on top in his opinion as the club that 'without question best suited me'. About 10 minutes in it was clear that he was on commission and was not interested in finding the best club for me but only plugging the X hots. I hardly got to try any other clubs (he got me to hit 100+ out of 150 balls with callaway clubs).

Did you get this feeling or is it just me?

What other clubs did you try other than the pings?

That isn't a fitting and I wouldn't have paid for it as one. I had already tried the Cally X hot pro and knew the place I went to do didn't stock Callaway but had the data to make a comparison. On the day I wanted to try I20, Rocketbladez tour and G25, but also got given the Mizuno JPX 825 Pro to try as well. Hit a number of shaft options in the I20, Rocketbladez and G25 but stock shaft in the G25 was the best outcome. I wanted to use something a tad lighter but dispersion went out.

I might try and get some new shafts in my AP1s. My mate said he would buy the, for £200 (my clubs). Which would work out better?

I had a fitting last week. Was there for 2 hours. Tried the x hot pro's, 825 pro's, ap2's and the i20's. used the mizuno dna, had static fit and impact tape and board and although not as good looking as the mizzies or ap2's i couldnt miss with the i20's. so im now waiting on them. Green dot and 1/2 inch longer. Loved the ap2's but mi***** werent forgiving enough. Also id advise against buying clubs if ur only hitting them into a net. Try getting a fitting on a range.

What swing speed were you and what shaft did you out with? I hit them on the range, so much better than into a net

So, decided to go for a 2nd fitting as I wanted to be sure I was getting what I see wanted, so went to Tony Valentine Golf this time, so much more relaxed there, several swings with the mizuno gadget, gave me 3 shaft choices, so ended up preferring the DG S300 (I think), tried about 10 different heads, and the one that felt great with good distance and nice fight was the Cleveland 588 TT, TOTALLY not what I even thought about walking in,but after an hour plus, I was super hooked on this iron!!
Awaiting delivery now, after being measured standard length and lie, and keeping the tour velvet grips.
Even came with a free choice of Cleveland XL fairway or hybrid, retail £130!
That's my wedding present sorted, happy!
