H/cap limit for full membership

Not come across this before - have you enquired at your club as to the reasoning behind why they do this?

Last time i came across anything like this was when i was 18 and told i had to be 21 to get into a night club!! :D ...and that seems like a long time ago now....

Weird system. They obviously don't want the clique on a w/e to be disturbed by players who are wanting to get their first h/cap and work full time with family so playing during the week is a non-starter.

The club I intend to join won't let at a full membership you unless you have a h/cap but there's (so far) been no mention of a limit. Having said that the pro has said he would go round with me to get my 3 cards in which is encouraging.

But it's their rules and they have a waiting list so.....

Don't think I would want to join a club as such, mind you some of the better clubs as mentioned before work their memberships out on profession, bank balance and social standing which is so out dated.

. . . until they need a plumber

Is excluding the very high handicappers from weekend golf fair? Is it usual? I play with plenty of slow golfers, and plenty who hack up the course off way lower handicaps than 22, who I would happily see banned from playing at busy times. Why pick on 22? Is this the norm?

No, No, me too and, um, No.

I've never been a member anywhere that draws some sort of line. I play with guys of 4,5,6+ and sometimes players off 28. Doesn't bother me, as long as the beginners can keep up or the "less able" don't expect me to spend my non-shot time helping them find balls every hole or explain rules.

One of my mates plays off 23 and he's great to go round with.....and not slow either, in fact, he just steps up to hit and hits it every time.

I don't find it annoying, as it doesn't affect me. I just saw the list go up on the notice board for people to apply to upgrade to full, and thought, hmm, what if you were off 23. I can vaguely see the point if it was 28, as that really isn't a handicap, as it is the upper limit, so you could be off 50 like a german (and they are slow).

In many ways it is a very un snobby golf club, so I don't get where this comes from.

I got asked at my interview what field i worked in (construction), then they asked if i had a company vehicle and what was it (at the time Mercedes) then they told me if i managed to get into the club i'd have to park it at the top end of the car park away from the clubhouse as it would look unsightly. I then explained it was a C - Class Mercedes car, you could see the look of relief on there faces!!!!......shouldn't have mattered if went there on a push bike but unfortunately a lot of commitees are like that!!

Construction - how lower class!! Only Doctors, lawyers, architects and academics allowed at my club.. ;)

Actually, our club is owned by builders which is why the bunkers are full of construction sand rather than proper 'golf' sand!! More stones in 'em than your average rehab clinic.. :D

Makes it even worse!!
And you have a waiting list?
Lets face it, some people are never, ever, ever in a year of Sundays going to get to 20 - so they'll never be full members.
A bizarre rule.
