Having played in our end of season comp. yesterday and only getting 25 points gross 100 finished the season on the same h/c as i started.

Played today in the start of our winter comp.and carded a gross 82 for my best ever score (dont know where that come from),in this comp. our h/cs only go down anything over 36 points and not up, just for the winter comp. Reverting back to the h/c you finished the season on the start of another season. As i got 46 points i will get a good cut.

My question is as this was only one day after our season officially finished could i ask the h/c sec. to count this score for my official h/c ?(we play this comp of the yellows) I hope you can do this as i would really like a cut in my h/c and shooting 10 under i feell i should be cut. I have heard about rule 19 not sure how it works could this count perhaps.

It never hurts to ask the question. Most h/c secs are quite happy to give out cuts , some arent of course. I dont think there is a rule 19 anymore , its just a general review these days I believe

If your course has a SSS off the yellows and therefore a permenent marker block for the yellows on each tee. If you also played the course off these blocks, or you played off tees close enough to these blocks such that the total length of the course you played was no more than 100yds shorter than the measured distance. Finally, if you played off full h'caps and used the proper greens then I don't see how your score can be anything other than applied to your official h'cap. Not doing so surely goes against CONGU rules?

Yes there is sss of the yellows played the full course and normal greens. As h/cs are normally done of the white markers i am not sure of the ruling for this.

If it's off a measured course etc then there's no reason why it shouldn't be run as a qualifier in which case you could (and should) go up as well as down. This applies even if winter rules are in place providing it's fairways only). If the course is significantly shorter (winter tees etc) then committees will be very reluctant to do a general play adjustment as this is rarely justified and once you get back to the proper course you will struggle.

Is rule 19 not to do with say a 10 getting brought back to net double bogey?

That being the case I would say your club has to adjust official h'caps accordingly. Not doing so would mean your entire club would start next 'season' off of the wrong h'cap.

All of our comps through the winter are official qualifying comps as long as the CONGU rules are met. I don't see how the h'cap system can be accurate if clubs make their own rules through winter.

Until CONGU re-wrote the handbook a couple of years ago "Rule 19" was the general play rule. This is actually now Rule 23 but many still refer to "Rule 19" when they mean "general play" adjustment.

See no reason why it shouldn't be a qualifying comp from what's been said. This clearly goes against CONGU recommendations. Committees are there to implement the rules not make them up as they go along.

If they are off an unmeasured course with preferred lies through the green etc then they can do what they like in winter but as abouve a General play adjustment for scores on a short winter couse are generally knee jerk, not justified and seldom hold up the following season.

Really,really?? :D

Isn't that exactly what they are there to do? Seems to be in my experiances.... :p

I think you should be in line for a cut based ont he fact that it was off the yellows with its SSS. I agree with Dodeger though, a lot of handicap secretaries do seem to be a law unto themsleves especially given some of the posts on here. Good shooting though irrespective of whether you get cut or not
