And having worked in a prison for many years, I've had lots of lengthy discussions with various "types" from the lower end of society.
And I have given these issues of how we treat such people a great deal of thought over many years.
My comments are based on my experiences of being very much face-to-face with people who are called "gypsies", "pikeys" and "scum" by others.
And also with being face-to-face with many who do such name-calling and worse.
I think what you say has a lot of merit. The problem is (and older Romanies have said this to me)the younger ones don't give or have the respect the older ones do. As a result they cause unneccesaru clean up costs and damage repair costs that the older ones dont and didnt. We've had caravans in our golf club car park on many occasions.

Yes I have just had an email about this.!Just had an email from our club, the auto barrier is not auto after hearing there are travellers in the area.
The Police, Crime, Sentencing and Courts Act 2022 makes trespass a criminal offence if the trespasser intends to reside on the land in or with a vehicle, and if they disrupt the land owner's ability to make lawful use of the land.
So travellers occupying a golf club car park clearly falls under this (assuming they plan on sleeping in their caravans), and the police can arrest them.
I'm not sure referring to them as "types from the lower end of society" is much better that the other words you are scolding people for using. It's hardly a complimentWe've had caravans in our golf club car park on many occasions.

The police will not arrest a traveller acting otherwise peaceably, merely for sleeping in his caravan on a golf club car park, regardless of what the law says.
Sadly, there is a bigger picture, whether we agree with it or not. And for the record, I don’t.
So what you're saying is that this particular criminal offence (which is what it is, by definition under the 2022 PCSC Act) is one that the police choose to ignore? The police will not arrest a traveller acting otherwise peaceably, merely for sleeping in his caravan on a golf club car park, regardless of what the law says.

Which is why I put the word within quotation marks to indicate that it is a questionable term.I'm not sure referring to them as "types from the lower end of society" is much better that the other words you are scolding people for using. It's hardly a compliment
Are you simply having a week in which you try and patronise everybody on this forum?Which is why I put the word within quotation marks to indicate that it is a questionable term.
In quoting me, you should have put it as
""types" from the lower end of society"
leaving the quotation marks around the word.
I think "try to" is better, but the answer is no I am not. (not everybody)Are you simply having a week in which you try and patronise everybody on this forum?

Like many other criminal offences that seem to be ignored by the police - presumably due to lack of manpower.
Why?Surprised the mods are allowing this discussion TBH.
Because of the derogatory terms used to describe people. Why?
