Why cant they mobilise the unemployed and people on community service to clear paths 5 days a week and get them working? I would have thought this the most obvious solution to not just helping motorists but pedestrians on the whole.

I'm sure there are plenty of asylum seekers who wouldn't be to keen to seek asylum if they got them out serving the community they so badly want to be a part of clearing paths to pay for their mobile phones, leather jackets and free bus passes.

not at all cynical are you, :D

My Dad was a Bricklayer and he often told me that he had to go shoveling snow to get any kind of benefit if he was laid off in bad winters. Don't know if it's true though, you know what Dad's are like, he told me he was a second world war hero and it wasn't till I was old enough to realise that he would have been the only 10 year old war hero that I twigged he couldn't possibly have stormed several Japanese machine gun nests single handed. :D

Our two 13 year old twins got into trouble a few years ago for fighting at school.
Apparantly their classmates wouldn't believe that their Dad was a Spitfire pilot during the war.....
Not only that, but he had run out of fuel whilst patroling above Scapa Flow and had to ditch his plane, landing on an iceberg.
Not any old iceberg though, it was the one that actually sank the Titanic!! Their Dad survived for two weeks sucking ice for water and eating raw penguins before being picked up by John Wayne flying a sea plane.
Oh, and I used to play in goal for Manchester United and whilst not playing a full game with David Beckham, played in a friendly with him once 'cos he was too young to make the full team.

In the good old days before regionalisation when we had County Councils and City Councils, the was a By-Law where I lived requiring you to clear all snow from the pavement ajoining you property. This icluded businesses as well as residences.

Let that be a lesson to you. Never, ever believe anything your Dad tells you.
John Wayne won medals for his acrobatic abilities in a Cessna and was a wingman for Douglas Bader.

I'm starting to believe you smiffy, come to think of it, it does seem a bit strange that I was the only first born son to follow the age old tradition of wearing a dress and white sandals on the first day of primary school.

Nothing wrong with that.
I still wear them when the Missus isn't around.
JustoneUK found it a bit strange at first, but he's warming to it

KEEP GOING SMIFFY STARTING TO WARM UP NICELY.

Got to trudge down B&Q in a minute. Missus wants me to fix the hole in the wall underneath the kitchen sink, and we have a massive draught coming in from under a window sill too.
God knows what she expects me to do about it!
She is baking cakes today and says that the cold air is making her raisins go hard

I know the solution to boredom.

Work. That is where I am, clocking up double time.

I am still bored, but at least I am getting paid for it. If I was at home, I would be doing it for nothing.

I'd love to - but I like my car the shape it is. :(
Put a snotty 17 yr old on snow and ice, especially if they think they know it all (which most of them think they do!) and its Prangsville City Arizona!
