Afternoon all

I'll be regripping my clubs in October and need a bit of advice and guidance. I currently have Golf Pride Tour Velvet Jumbo grips on my irons which are +1/8. However, Ping webfit recommend that based on my hand and finger size I am a Gold grip which is a midsize +1/32. Luckily I've got a Gold grip on my 3 Wood and I tried the finger test on both and Ping are right on the money.

My questions are:

1. Can anyone recommend any grips they have used for me to have a look at? I play all year round so need a degree of moisture management.

2. I am thinking of putting different grips on my wedges to my irons to get more feel and feedback. Good/bad/pointless idea?

3. I'm thinking of doing it myself. Has anyone else done this and is it straight forward or am I going to make a complete mess of it and should I spend a few more quid and get my Pro to do it?

Thanks in advance

I'm thinking of re-gripping soon. I found some black widow grips on ebay for £2.99 each. I can't say i've tried them but they look great, thought i'd just give you the heads up.

alright mate. I do it myself. It.s really quite easy:) i have lamkin ndur on my irons and they are very good! Very comfortable. Getting the old tape off isn't too bad, i find that if you give them a good scrub they are fine :)

A lot will depend on your budget, but you won't go far wrong with these they do a midsize but it's 1/16 and not 1/32. You could always buy standard and put 2 or 3 lots of tape on.

You can get all you need to fit new grips from Gamola. Fitting is fairly easy if you have the kit.

Rapido responses thanks guys. those Lamkin ones say.580 round is that the butt diameter as my shafts are .600?

Yes that's the butt diametre. Don't worry, the 580's will still fit on. I managed to fit a standard grip onto a wilson fat shaft...  :D

Thanks Twire. Definitely doing them myself just need to pick a grip (which will be the same throughout the set). Mmmmm this could take some time though Lamkin seem to be getting a lot of love.

Be careful if you fit them yourslef, they can stretch and twist when you slide them on.
Check each one against the first one to ensure they're all the same length.
Only problem is if your first one is wrong you're in trouble :)
Good luck

I won some grips the other day, not a brand i would have looked at but when they arrived they looked awesome. they are black widow Part number BWWM1-BW-EU. they are black at the top and white at the bottom. the top is full cord so great in the wet and the bottom is nice soft rubber and i guess good for feel. I only won three of them so i have to get some more as i want the hole set to be the same. they look very very well made and thought out.

I did mine with a job lot from gamola (grips and full kit).
No problem. I only messed one up (it wasn't fully on) so make double sure they've gone on all the way. I turned mine over (after making that mistake) and gently pressed down on the shaft with the end of the grip on the floor. After a few, you'll get quite quick. I hardly used any of the gamola solvent....as I was paranoid, I soaked them with white spirit (I had a huge vat), the more solvent, the wetter, the easier (it seemed to me). I sort of recycled it by drenching over an old washing up bowl.

A much easier way is pour some white spirit from the bottle into the grip, shake, then pour back into the bottle. Then take the shaft with the tape on and dip it into the bottle and shake to make sure all the tape gets wet.
Saves a lot of mess and waste :)

I always put a bit of masking tape (and mark the center line) about 1mm above the old grip round the shaft, before removing the old grip. This gives an easy visual reference where the new one goes. Can't go wrong. :D

Nice tip Bob. Is there any difference between White spirit and the specialist stuff gamola sell?
