Went out and played 14 yesterday and made a point of swinging within myself and playing with an overlapping grip for the whole round although i did loose a little distance initially i bacame more consistently straight......
I did hit my driver a few times and hit most of them straight left...its draw biased!
What im asking is why have my shots become straighter with this grip as opposed to the interlock and is the reason my tempo is smoother related to the grip also.....
Im going to change to this for the future and ingrain it.

Hi kid, I have been working on changing to overlap all winter and I find I have a more consistant ball flight but it is definately a work in progress, after having an interlock grip for 6 years since I started playing, I am still getting used to it.
the overlap allows me to release the clubhead better so I can hit a nice draw, not sure y it makes you hit it straight but if it works then maybe hit the range for a time to see how it goes.

Hi James,
Iv been tinkering with for a few months on and off but im going to stick with it this time and make it work....I can be stubborn like that.
Im still a bit baffled as to why its more consistent but if it works why change ;)

I stand to be corrected but I think it's basically down to finding agrip that allows you square the club more consistantly. I have very small hands and so the interlocking works better for me but it might simply being a case of the overlapping suiting your grip and swing better. I like stubborn though and I hope you get the end result you want with it. My only advice would be to get it checked regularly by your pro while your in transition to make sure you have it in the correct part of the hand and that you don't get the grip too weak/strong. Once it becomes more natural use it as a starting point if you mis-hit a few and then go from there

I totally agree, I still find it quite tough if things arenot going well to stick with it, but I now it is for the best. If you were slice/fading the ball before it maybe that you are now releasing the club and not holding off as much.
I am sticking with it mate, I believe it will benefit in the long run.

Good luck with it.

I have i suppose what you'd call average size hands Homer...My glove size is large but my knuckles are quite big and at times the interlock felt uncomfortable over my knuckles rubbing off each other.......
I grip the club between the crease at the end of my small finger and the last joint of my indexand my thumb is just slightly right of centre on the shaft....

It might be nothing much to do with your grip change - you says you are swinging well within yourself - I find that when I do this I almost always hit the ball cleanly and it flies straight.

If I swing even a small fraction harder and faster I loose tempo and slice the ball or send it straight left - and my grip hasn't changed since I started playing 3 years ago!

My problem comes from my arms getting out of sync with my hips - something that I can control better at slower swing speeds.
