Lots of Liverpool blinkers being worn I'm afraid. What about Real Madrid's 5 straight European Cup wins from 1956-1960?

Despite my suspicions that the op was expecting an outpouring of love towards Liverpool s ancient history, it's not been forthcoming.

Not sure two mentions = lots

I was going to add 85 European Ryder Cup team.

Been mentioned twice ? Once by a Boro fan ?!

I couldn't comment on a team I never saw play

The team through the 80's under all three managers didn't stop winning trophies and playing football of the standard I haven't seen since

Team Sky - what they achieved within five years, starting from nothing, has been an incredible achievement on many levels.

!!! Liverpool were great in the 1980s but their football was nowhere near the Barca team under Guardiola, etc.

he is right though!

No it's his opinion as opposed to being right or wrong

Mine is that team in the league season 1988 was the best I have ever seen - not a single weak link

Is that 1987/88? The year they lost to Wimbledon in the Cup Final?

Wasn't that the season the all-conquering Ian Rush was found out in Serie A as well?

Just sayin......

Another thread about to be ruined with Liverpool this, Liverpool that...

Jesus H Christ... Who gives a ffff...

It does become a bit tiresome doesn't it?

Maybe we should have a seperate section for Liverpool threads? :D

Even as a UTD fan I could never say that the treble winning side were any where close to Barca under Guardiola. Something like 14 out of the 19 comps they entered under him in 4 years.

Easily, by a country mile, the best club football I've ever seen.

So Top 3:
1. Barcelona under Guardiola
2. Ferarri in the 2000's
3. Wigan RLFC 80's & 90's.

Interesting question this as I would not class the current New Zealand side as the greatest ever, very good to say the least but not the greatest ever sporting team, and maybe not even the greatest ever All Blacks side.

Not many sporting teams have had that aura of total invincibility about them but I would class the West Indies team of the 70s and 80s in there and the Australian cricket team of the 1990s as well. The GB cycling team has to be in with a shout for the period up to and including 2012.

Basically, for me, for a team to be the greatest then they have to be at a level where you never really see them losing and a defeat even to top class opposition is a shock and very few fall in to that category.

The NZ rugby team currently I think lost 3 games over the 4 year period

I think in the early 80's they only lost something like 2 games in 6 years - it's a shame that there wasn't a WC early than 87 to put a pointer towards how good they were during those years.

Possibly even the team in 95 was better than the current one

The Windies in the 80's were just supreme - I grew up watching them with 11 of the best players ever seen on a cricket pitch playing for them

Imagine a test between that team and the Aussie one ?! Think Aussie had that one extra attacking weapon - Warne
