Great finish in the States!

All this 'is he / isn't he back' is all a load of tosh. Is he back? Of course he is - 3 wins to date this season and being in contention in others he didn't win, are proof of that. The only question marks now hanging over him is whether he has the game, mental fortitude and fitness to take it to the next level up from PGA tour events and win majors.

Exactly.

If you asked Tiger, a 14-time Major winner, "The only question mark now hanging over you is whether you have the game, mental fortitude and fitness to take it to the next level up from PGA tour events and win majors", I think you'd get a stinger right in the fringes. That's a question that should be directed at almost all the other PGA & Euro tour players.

He is easily playing well enough now to win a Major. End of discussion.

Why can't he be asked that? Since he came back from his absence he has had excellent opportunities to win majors but something has been lacking to prevent him from getting the job done; something that wouldn't have happened when he was winning majors regularly.

Sorry mate, but I disagree. As you said, he's 2nd on the all time list of wins behind Snead; and he's 2nd behind Nicklaus in major wins. IMO, IF he passes Nicklaus' record (and I personally don't think he will, hence my best with Rick!) then I don't think you can class anyone as being the best player ever until they are No 1 in at least one of those categories (if you want a comparison, look at tennis and Federer).

Is Federer the greatest then? If that's so then it's purely on the back of his major wins and can't possibly be on most wins as Jimmy Connors has a mahoosive 109 to Federer's 69.

...so only majors really count? Is that what you're saying?

Tiger has at least another good ten years in him, probably more.

So thats 40 Majors................anyone wanna bet he doesnt beat the record?
Go Tiger, you are great to watch and fantastic for the game.

Yes! In tennis, it's all about the Grand Slams. Federer has won more than anyone else and therefore is - quite rightly IMO - the greatest tennis player of all time.

Now look at it from another golfing perspective. Monty won 8 European Order of Merits - the most of any European golfer. Is he the best European Golfer of all time? No, because he did not win a Major.

So back to Woods. IMO he cannot possibly be classed as the greatest player of all time (yet) as there are two blokes ahead of him when it comes to tournament and Major wins. If Tiger does not break any of those records, then in 20+ years time all the record books will show is him 2nd (or 3rd in those lists if some other wonder kid comes along). They won't show how many (or few) tournaments he played in to get those wins, just the final figures.

Woods is the best European golfer of all time :D 3rd on the all time winning list and has a few majors, apparently that's enough :ears:

(Seve had 50 wins to Woods 38.... but Woods has 9 more majors) correct?

Don't think Nicklaus even came to Europe apart from a few Opens. So that makes Tiger a worldwide phenom.. eg: The greatest, No?

I don't know off the top of my head what Jack's matchplay or Ryder Cup record is....??

I can see where you're coming from, but you're just trying to be too clever - which I must say is a first for you........;).

Deja Vu.....im sure one of the presenters said this quote.......word for word!! lol

Mentioned before, Greatest of all time!

IMO, doesn't need to beat 18 Majors to be considered. Talent wise, no one better in history.
