GPS - Wow! - Im moving into a glass house and throwing stones!

Unfortunately I've never been graced with bundles of natural ability (we'll pass on the obivous comments Smiffy, Leftie et al)

Homer. I resent that comment. Apart from the obvious spelling mistake, I don't think that I have ever commented on your lack of ability. :D :D ;) ;) :p :p

Perish the thought. It's sad but true though. Every sport I've played and I've reached an ok level at some I've had to really grind out a performance. Wasn't blessed with huge footballing talent but coped by reading a game well. Wasn't a free scoring batsman in cricket so held an end up to let others with more skill to get the runs etc.

Know the feeling mate.

I've played many, many sports in my time and have rarely risen much above average.

Re the cricket, I could have been very good at that but it was too slow for me. I was persuaded to play a few times for a local "village green" side a few years after I left school.

Started off at no 7, carried my bat, then 6, then 4. Out once and had the best average of the club .

Exactly - or just too lazy / busy to put the time in to learn how to hit a little ball in a hole.

I think you are talking pish. I probably put as much time in playing and practicing on here as anyone. Unfortunately I've never been graced with bundles of natural ability (we'll pass on the obivous comments Smiffy, Leftie et al) and even when I was a lower handicap I had to work hard on my game. Its the same now and I am still working hard to get to single figures.

I know how to get the ball into the hole and can't see how a ten second glance at a piece of kit correlates into an argument about a players ability.

I know you work hard at your game - that's why your handicap is a good way better than average.

I just don't like GPS, as I don't see the point, personally. It's just my opinion, others have alternative standpoints, good for them.

THWACK

I've got one and for most of the round, it sits in my pocket. There are 150s where I play and with the aid of google earth, I have a few markers on some holes, but where I do use it is inside 100yards.

I have a few set yardages I use with my wedges 50, 70, 90 etc and when you can get an accurate reading to the front, middle and back it just gives you the confidence to hit the correct distance.
You still have to hit the shot mind you. :)
