Gotta love ebay

Last week while putting some of the wee boy's old toys away in the attic I found a couple of old laptops that have been up there for ages.
So I decided to strip them of all the user serviceable parts (memory, wireless, screens, hard drives, keyboards etc) and popped them all on ebay with 99p starts not knowing (or really caring) if they would make much.
7 day listings have just started to come to an end and with 5 down I have already made £100 with 5 still to end.

Got to love the old bay sometimes. One of the screens seemed to be quite sought after and attracted 22 bids and sold for £33. Memory seems to be a good seller as well.

If you have anything lying around, I say get it on ebay with 99p start, it doesn't cost anything to list and I'm proof that it can be beneficial :thup:

Got a friend that does this buying and selling through something called madcafe on Facebook stuff sells very quickly from what she tells me.

Sorry Greig I wasn't referring to yours, I just have no way of testing prior to selling them hence why I haven't, I might pop them on next free listing time as I have a box of good IT stuff incl routers, cables, sky boxes etc etc

Hate eBay solely down to its mandatory insistence that you have to use its parent company Paypal who are a law unto themselves.

fee's are a PITA, fee on listing (sometimes waivered), fee for selling, paypal fee for transaction = sell for 100 get about 85

so if your selling clubs and its worth 80 quid sell on here for 65, less hassle and everyones a winner

its great for buyers though

Actually, it was Ebay that bought Paypal.

Paypal does have some benefits, but resolving disputes isn't one of them imo! Mind you, my Credit Card company didn't help either!:angry:

And while charges may seem high (I think they are!) turning 'junk' into £85 seems worthwhile!

I bought a dog training device for £70 which was pretty useless. It was in a kitchen drawer for two years and I popped it on ebay thinking I may get £20 for it. It sold for £75.
My daughter does well on selling rare lego mini figures, some sell for nearly £10.

my mrs had a thing for buying the kids "designer" clothes (that soon finished!) but we have since sold them on ebay, 2yr old fit ralph lauren polo shirts go for a tenner, ted baker jeans etc etc, we almost got our money back as to be fair she buys most stuff in the sales. we sold a number of kids clothing items for more than we paid for them, after they had been worn for a year!!

I know people hate it due to fees and timewasters, but where else can you attract such an audience?

PS. shameless plug, i am selling some left handed RBZ clubs on my ebay right now! come on lefties!!

With everything ended and paypal fees off I made a total of £154.65 which is not bad, take off of that the ebay fees of £15 I have still made £140 out of stuff that's been laying around doing nowt.

I've just been up the pro shop at my club and pur-chased a club sweater, a club base layer for the Mrs, a nice FJ turtle neck undershirt and a few new grips. All, effectively for nowt.
I am going to have another look in the attic tonight as I'm sure I have another laptop up there and and old desktop base unit. Quite good fun watching the items end when you have multiple finishes at the same time.

You may find that £3.50 is cutting it fine on what it will cost you to package and send. Cost me £2.20 to send two banks of SO-DIMM memory this morning (Jiffy pack envelope and stamps).
Other than that, good listing (you may want to expand the title so that it's picked up in more possible searches and you are spot on, that's a steal. I have a GF7600GT card listed at the moment nowhere near that spec, starting at 99p and already has 10 watchers (only listed yesterday).

Absolutely and I try to keep the postage prices down, often to my own detriment. But don't forget that it's PACKING and posting, and that the postage fee quoted on RM is an estimate (never once known it to be right) and doesn't include the packing material (nor weight of said material).
At a 99p start postage up to £5 isn't really going to put many off as they will still see a bargain. Bit different if the item cost was 20 or 30 quid and then a fiver on top. That's just my experiences of selling though.
Good luck though, took me a while and a good few mistakes on ebay to get to a point of being quite successful at selling (only had one unsold item in the last year).
