After a trip to Scotland and a few rounds of golf, my wife is really quite keen to join a good quality club / course in SW London or Surrey

Not too long but a decent track where she can develop her game a bit

any ideas?

SW London - Wimbledon
Wimbledon Common would be ideal but you can't play after 2pm on Sunday and too many walkers on the common

Is cost going to be a determining factor?

Somewhere like Roehampton would probably fit the bill, but that's going to come with a significant cost.

Is the idea of joining somewhere so that she has people to play with? Playing at places like Richmond Park and Dukes Meadow (cost of playing aside) would otherwise seem like a decent starting point.

We played the par 3 at Sandown a couple of times when she first started and then the 9 hole course - which we found too flat and quite frankly boring

Sunningdale Ladies would be great but just too far away

Richmond Park is good but really looking for a private memenbrs club, where there is less traffic and a focus on green fee players

30 minutes drive would be OK - I know she would like to play evenings

Mitcham are doing half price first year for ladies and are quite cheap in general from the looks of it.

Not played there myself so it might be rubbish but unlikely with county stuff going there as often as it does

Have a look at Coombe Wood, really short so might be ideal with it being in nice shape when I played it. Think it was just over 5000 yards from the blocks.

So we played the 9 hole course at Hoebridge at the weekend and it was in pretty poor shape - tees overgrown with massive divots, bumpy and spongy greens, but worst of all were the bunkers - all solid and dried up - didn't look like a greenkeeper had raked them for a while. It was frankly awful - which is a real shame as the layout has potential if they would actually invest some TLC into it.

Compared to the 9 hole courses we played up in Fife (Lundin Ladies, Cupar and Elie), these were very poor

I have had heard good things about Sunningdale Ladies - thanks for the tip - Mrs C is going to investigate it further

Thanks for the suggestions

It's a bit of a trek but should only be 20-30 minutes down the A3 to our place at MerristWood.

Free range balls alls to members and a great short game practice area, range and putting green. Off the Reds it doesn't play too long and we have silver junior tees that my 9 year old son loves! The course is in its prime at the moment - absolutely stunning condition.

Theres a a web site where there's s flyover too. Www.Aerialgolfcaddy.co.uk

i think there's a referral scheme going too where we would get some goodies.

Bit further away isn't it? Was going to suggest my place as well but it took me a bit over 30 mins to get from there to London Scottish GC for their winter open

Wimbledon Park is an option but £3k joining fee!

Looking for a private members club really, not a proprietary club with pay and play demands
