Shot a 95 - net 69 and can't remember the last time this year I hit a sub 100 round in a medal!

Such has been my poor medal scores this year that I decided to go out with a different mind set. Knowing the two guys I played with very well, thought I'd treat it as a relaxed and friendly round with a couple of mates. Did it make the difference, I don't know. I didn't have one duff tee shot,(usually have 2 or 3), and just felt really comfortable all round.

Something else that was very pleasing - not the longest, straightest drive, or the crisply struck 6 iron, and not even a 30ft birdie putt. No, it was being able to hold the ball on the green with a bit of check.

As I was feeling confident with my game, on the 15th thought I'd try and hold the ball on the green. Pin was on the back and my shot landed and checked on the front, where it would normally bound on. Didn't hit it hard enough but pleased that I managed to achieve it.

So on the 16th par 4 after hitting a decent drive I tried with a 7 iron and managed to do it again, would normally roll on in to semi rough at back of green. Then two putted for par.

On the 18th par 4, again hitting a good drive, used a 9 iron and held the green, instead of the usual back edge of green. Two putted for par again :)

I must say that it felt really good to have some modicum of control over the ball, which not many high handicappers are able to do. So I think I'll be doing this a lot more now and who knows, might even be able to get the ball to spin back a little :D :D

A happy,

Golfmmad. :D

Well done Golfmmad, I know how you fill.

I had my best round for 3 months on saturday (gross 99 net 73 Par 72) 37 stapleford points. Only failed to score on one, and if it wasn't for the greens, that have been treated (very sandy) I believe i would have easily knocked another 3 or 4 shots of that total.

I am in the process of changing my swing and it is coming along OK on the 7 iron to wedges, but i tried it out on the 5 and 6 irons on saturday with some excellent results, hitting one par 3 hole with a 5 iron to within 20 feet. Of course i had some luck along the way, but i believe I was due some after some of the bad luck i have had during the summer.

Now looking forward to next saturdays medal, so long as I can get my back sorted after hurting it yesterday doing the bloody gardening.

Well speaking of medal i went 3 under handicap nett 67 in the monthly medal on saturday. I came 8th!!!! When i came in i was 4th. It was perfect conditions though.
