Hadn't played for 3 months untill Friday, Shot a 79 at Hoylake Municiple. Missed one fairway, hit 50% greens, was up and down quite well and didn't lose a ball.

Ball striking felt good and my swing was easy.

How come? ...... NO swing thoughts, NO pressure!

Anyone else benefited from a break? Or what else brings your game back in line?

No not at all ! hit all fairways & greens on par 3's, but from 50yrds in i was pants. I played a 2 H'cap and kept up till in and around the greens, short game really let me down.

I did however feel really fresh and ready to go.

I reckon a break always does the world of good though i've only had a few weeks off it and not 3 months.

Playing with freedom and no worries of being cut and winning is a sound return.

Hows upton looking Tony?

Not been there for 3 months, cancelled the membership (due to cost)

I know even with all the bad weather it will still be tip top though.

Drainage is pretty good there now, there are some parts that are wet but not usually where you play from.

Greens are good all year round!

I need to play regularly to keep any kind of form going. I try and keep the swing ticking over at the range if I can't play for a while. Didn't play at all this weekend or practice so desperate for a game with a fellow forummer and NEW Royal Ascot member next week. I hope I don't disgrace myself and put him off.

I am currently on an enforced break. I am suffering with "mallet finger" of the middle finger left hand.Been out of action for 5 weeks. Got 2 weeks to go before hospital visit to see if it has healed. All being well have got winter league match 2 days later

As usual, after a break of any length, my short game's on the blink. Struggled to get up'n'down for the first 2 rounds of the year and the putting last thursday was shocking on the front 9. Most other things ticking over and after a few more games I sense things will be back to normality.

I'm with you Imurg, 50yds in is normally the thing that saves my game. back after 6 weeks of bad weather and first 2 rounds in our winter league 23 and 22 points in consecutive saturdays. :(
I need a couple of evenings during the week to keep my short game going but obviously impossible this time of year ;)

With me it's my "short" game. From 100-20 yards out I'm ok, could be better but for this time of the year not bad.
It's the chips and runs around the greens I'm messing up at the moment, either going too long or too short and that's putting pressure on the putter, hence the enormous number of 3 putts last week(5).

Since the snow has gone, managed 2 winter league matches and must say im surprised how well im playing,9 pars,2 doubles, and the rest single bogies, ball striking seems really good at the mo,so just going to go out and enjoy it without thinking to much.....

A break is the best thing for me, didnt play from the first weekend in november right through to the thursday before the new year. around 6-7 weeks off and my game improved no end, first game of the year with no pressure saw good stats, with 1 under handicap on a fairly challenging course at the best of times.

I find my short game goes after a few weeks of not playing. Long game fine for 2 or 3 months lay off. Played on Saturday and when in a bunker for the first time in 3 months and didn't get it out first time in fact i struggled to remember how to play it, 2nd time was fine though. Chipping from around the green was woeful too.:D

Following on from the decent form, decide to hit the range to see if I could correct the fade, set the camera up and couldn't beleive what I was watching.

My swing looked nothing like it did the last time I saw it. Massivly outside the line on the down swing (as expected)

10 minutes of the 3 ball drill and it started coming back. Amazing how things can change so much in so little time!
