After switching to a Mizuno 17 deg hybrid a couple of years ago as I was not getting on with my 2 iron.

Anyway had a game with Seochris at his club, Fortrose on Monday night. It’s a fairly short but windy course, so thought I would dig out my old 2 iron. The fairways there were hard and fast and run just perfectly. Only used the driver twice.

Played in a tie at Nairn last night, fairways rock hard after a few days of wind and no rain. Only used driver on the par 5 6th 2 iron on every par 4 on the way out.

1st 20 yards past my opponent who used his driver.

2nd 460 yard par 4 duffed it but still went 200 yards, hit it again from 260 to the front middle of the green.

Long story short won 3 and 2.

I know plenty who give up on long irons anyone ever gone back again after using a hybrid?

3 iron has just gone back in the bag here and hitting it really good, still carrying the hybrid too though not sure if i will continue to do so. The 3 iron only has 21 degrees of loft, not sure im brave enough to get the 2 iron back out again yet (18 degrees i think!)

Have never hit a 2 iron and rarely a 3. Just gave up on the 4 and bought a hybrid today.... although I hope to go back one day.... maybe!

Yep I still use one if I'm playing links golf. Also a very good 'go to' club off the tee.

My home course is relatively short,but very tight,i use my 2 iron off the tee on most of the par 4's and 5's.I carry a hybrid,but i only use it when faced with a longish shot from the rough.

I just prefer the versatility of the hybrid out of semi rough, even for chipping. It comes down softer than a long iron and as I dont have to worry about links wind and humps and hollows is better suited for me

17* Sonartec MD flew like a 2 (or even 1) iron and was far more reliable, both on links and parkland courses. 17* Adams does the same in the current bag.

Just sold my RAC 2-iron a few weeks ago as haven't used it for a couple of years. Still got a TM300 2 head, but fear that would fly a little higher than I like, so haven't bothered to put a shaft in it.

I started with a hybrid, and never really got on with it, and hit someone's 3 iron at my local driving rage and striped it...so went home and bought the 2-iron version (3 iron loft was too similar to 4 iron), and haven't looked back. Absoutely love my 2 iron! I keep flicking back to see if the hybrid can work, but as yet...no!

Just having a 3iron modded. It's nice but has a reg graPhite shaft in, it's currently being fitted with a xp-s300 to match my other irons

I've binned my hybrid and stuck in the 3 iron from my set. Only for off the tee, mind you.

Hybrids might be more forgiving and better for height and playing out of the rough, but I can't hit one R-L, so no good for any short holes/tees at mine.

my 4 iron is going back in and I'm getting an 18* utility iron to try out. Hybrids will be kept on the subs bench though.
