Your golf stats, do you keep any? Or you not bothered?
Last year I created my own spread sheet to enter score to keep a tab on how I was doing, it tracks my HC and my overall score, not all that useful to be honest but a reminder of how rubbish I am.
Anyway I figured this year I'd add another set of stats and I've started logging down each hole's individual score and hole shot average, this has showing me that the 15th on my home course is a hole I find easiest to play, well the stats tell me that. In reality I find it anything but easy to play as generally I'm in the trees scrambling to get the ball back into play.
All the same for the other 17 holes it shows that I'm either 2 or 3 shots over par on each hole, the 15th is the exception where I'm only 1 over, the other irony is that I've par'd each hole at least once and managed birdie on two.
This got me thinking about course Mgmt. and my own game and how best to lower my scores. Take the first a par 4 SI 2, up hill tee shot, then an up hill 2nd on to a two tier green, get onto the green in two there and you've hit two damn good shots, 3 is the norm for most, with most happy to take a 5. For me a 6 is a good start but it generally a seven that I start the round with, mainly because I've tried to rip my drive and topped it, then I've tried to rip the fairway and put it in the trees on the right, 3rd is dink back on the fairway, 4 is chip onto the green, occasionally close but normally chunked, leaving a long putt, which means a two sometimes 3 putt.
So I'm thinking 4 iron off the tee, a club I know I can hit, 6 next to leave a full wedge to the green, removing the little chip then two good putts, walk off with a 5, 2 better than what my stats tell me is my average.
Rather than go for distance to try and beat or match par on each hole, play shorter but straighter keeping the ball in play, I reckon if I stick to this I could knock 15 possibly 20 shots of my round , my last round being 105 which consisted of six 7's and two 8's.
