In Edinburgh a few years back, I was about to have a practice round at Braid Hills Golf Club, Edinburgh and approached the first tee... On the first tee there was another 'lonely' golfer and we agreed to pair up.

One of the things he said to me made me laugh, but it has always stuck in my head "You never truely enjoy golf, until you realise that you are sh*t!"

Does anybody else have any favourite golfing quotes or pieces of advice that have made you laugh but at the same time, stuck with you?

One that I remember is "the hole never comes to the ball"
its less corny than never up, never in. I am generally past the hole, sometimes too far on the longer putts, but prefer this to being 6 foot short and never seeing the line closer to the hole.

One my father taught me over 40 years ago is "It is easier to replace the turf, than to re-turf the place." I always replace divots! ;)

My Grandfather had a good one to establish a nice easy swing, believe it or not it's "Ease and Grace". He told me it was a quote from Gary Player, it has always helped me keep a nice rhythm with my swing.

My dad said one day after he humped me again look son ,you should have stuck in at the footie cause you'll never be any good at this game. Or his favourite was i've got the joiner coming to rebuild the mantle piece so you and your brother will both fit on it now, auld git :D

I was once told to cut 5" off of the length of my clubs. "Will I play better" I asked, the pro replied "No but they will fit in the bin easier"

Got my first pub tournament tomorrow. The albino palomino or the white horse in bedford. Crapping it cos I've changed my swing 298 this year. will be going very open face and wrist rolling like god knows using woods metals or irons dont know yet any advice? Shite 28er

Save yourself the green fee and caddy for someone :D JK ;)
Take plenty of balls and try to remember, its better than work or christmas shopping with HID

The one that I always remember is:

'A bad day on the golf course is still better than a good day in the office'

sometimes I wonder though...
