Here is the situation I said to the pro at our course(no committee) that 2 players in the club championship played from the yellow tee's at the 1st (1 white tee was missing) another member told me about the yellow at the 1st so not just me as a witness. I did not see which tee's from the 2nd but they played from the white's on the 3rd then went to the 4th IMO and the rule book instant DQ, http://www.randa.org/en/Rules-and-Amateur-Status/Rules-of-Golf.aspx#/rules/?ruleNum=11&subRuleNum=4

So I said to the pro about this and that it is a DQ upon she said she will speak to them, Now I went out yesterday and got beat in the club championship to another member fair and square ( I was rank) so it isnt sour grapes as I could have claimed the game later on as he was going to mark a 4 on his card at the par 3 when he took a 5 (think Hale Irwin fresh air 2 inch putt) I told him that a stroke at the ball is a shot as he did not know this. Anyway here is the Moral Imperative I will be playing the loser of the semi (if it goes ahead) for a 3rd place position which would give me a chance of winning a bronze package year free membership but the guy I play would be one of the two players who should be DQ. So my head and heart are saying if they are not DISQUALIFIED I will hand my membership back in and never play there again, The wife says just play as it's not that much of a worry.

Forum members I await your response.

They should be DQ'd, however, decision 11-4b/2 says...

Q) In stroke play, competitors in a group, finding one tee-marker missing from a teeing ground, determine for themselves the area of the teeing ground based on the position of the remaining tee-marker and the shape of the tee. What is the ruling?

A) The correct procedure is to discontinue play until the Committee resolves the problem.
However, if the Committee is satisfied that the competitors did not gain an advantage by playing from the place they judged to be the teeing ground, it would be appropriate for the Committee, in equity (Rule 1-4), to accept their scores, without penalty. Otherwise, they incur the penalty prescribed in Rule 11-4b.

So I guess the pro could accept that, since the tee marker was missing that they didn't gain an advantage from where they played and accept their scores (although playing off the yellows in absence of a white tee would see to be a stretch of said rule and I wouldn't be happy if they did). How much difference between white and yellow?

EDIT: Although it would be hard to justify playing from in front of the remaining white marker so this shouldn't apply here.

DQ is the only sanction

I think handing in your membership is a little OTT. A mistake may have been made (even an honest mistake) so just write it off and get on with it. A bit too drastic for me mate.

Has/was a decision on whether a DQ should have happened been made?

If a decision was made, then simply abide by it. There should be no animosity towards the player.

On a slightly different tack...how much is the Bronze package worth? If it's over £500, it's a breach of Amateur status.

See R&A Amateur Rules/Decisions 3-2a/22

Bronze about £110, Silver £180 and Gold £280

Morally, you may have a point and it is only you what can decide that, as you set the rules for your moral code. In reality, is it worth it over odd 20 yards?

How can they offer such prizes as a car for a hole in one then? I thought the £500 that ng had been done away with.

nope, amateurs can win new cars now after rule change

Indeed. Changed in 2012. 3-2b Restricted to Hole in One prizes though!

b. Hole-in-One Prizes
An amateur golfer may accept a prize in excess of the limit in Rule 3-2a, including a cash prize, for a hole-in-one made while playing a round of golf.
Note: The hole-in-one must be made during a round of golf and be incidental to that round. Separate multiple-entry contests, contests conducted other than on a golf course (e.g. on a driving range or golf simulator) and putting contests do not qualify under this provision and are subject to the restrictions and limits in Rules 3-1 and 3-2a.

Here's 3-2a

a. General
An amateur golfer must not accept a prize (other than a symbolic prize) or prize voucher of retail value in excess of £500 or the equivalent, or such a lesser figure as may be decided by the Governing Body. This limit applies to the total prizes or prize vouchers received by an amateur golfer in any one competition or series of competitions.
Exception: Hole-in-one prizes – see Rule 3-2b.

So £500 limit still applies - and that decision is actually specific to membership.

So how much is the yearly membership Sydney?

Surely, you would rather win by playing than by getting someone else dq'd?

Obviously you did not read the whole post did you ?
