Golfing Moral imperative.

Obviously you did not read the whole post did you ?

Now I went out yesterday and got beat in the club championship to another member fair and square ( I was rank) so it isnt sour grapes as I could have claimed the game later on as he was going to mark a 4 on his card at the par 3 when he took a 5 (think Hale Irwin fresh air 2 inch putt) I told him that a stroke at the ball is a shot as he did not know this.

My point was that you have the chance to play the guy in the 3rd place play off, so therefor have chance to "win" by playing him rather than b default.

This is a matchplay competition correct?
So both tee'd from the same spot? Their competition was fair between themselves, correct?
Who did not put the tee marker out knowing that the club championship was a match play competition off the whites?
seriously is it your business to police two golfers who played their match as best they could under the conditions of the course and got a result, leading to the competition moving forward, without gaining an advantage over others?
I think you should perhaps give up your membership and become a parking warden or go after the slack person who doesn't put the tee markers out!

I got the impression the original competition (with the missing tee marker) was the club champs strokeplay to get into the matchplay.

The wiffed putt was in matchplay, so not sure you can ignore it at the time and bring it up later.

Did you state it was a stroke play competition? I missed that..
But I stand by the rest of my post, they did their best and you should find the tee marker ...

You also stated you lost to the bloke ... Implying you were playing match play, your original post is confusing ...

.

Yes strokeplay to get into matchplay, the guy next was going to tee from the yellow too until I told him about the white tee and it was he who told me about the others teeing from the yellow as they were at the fringe of the 1st when I arrived., hence why we have a meeting next month as we need a committee and problems resolved.

Ok I will leave responding to you at that as you seem to be going along the lines that. a, I am lying OR b, I hid it.
Not at all, you are using secondary evidence to DQ 2 players. You don't really sound like a pleasant golfer, looking to DQ people is a bit of a nasty habit which needs to be removed from the game.

I've read and reread this and my conclusion is this:

1. It's the club champs. If I rock up on the first tee and there's a marker missing the last thing I would do is assume we are off yellows. I'd go into the pro shop and find out what the story was. To tee off from the yellows was them making a decision which would they knew would give them an advantage. In which case they should be DQ'd.

2. If someone came up to me after the comp and said "you know you played from the wrong place?" and I remembered I'd tee'd from the yellows I'd DQ myself.

The rest is inconsequential. If they were decent sorts they would have stepped down already, the fact they haven't only peaks my suspicion on point 1.

Harpo as far as I know if you see someone break the rules and you don't say anything you are breaking the rules yourself and stand to be DQ'd. If you feel its coming from a sour grapes place then that's your perspective but from the basic rules point there has to be a hearing. Just as shame they are bringing it to that instead of holding their hands up.

I could have claimed the game later on as he was going to mark a 4 on his card at the par 3 when he took a 5

I wouldnt do that anyway, just letting the guy know that what the rule was and if I never said he might repeat it and get pulled up for it.

I wasn't insinuating that you would have done it. I got the impression from the snipped bit of your original post that you thought you could do it, and I was just trying to show that you couldn't.

If you have a complaint in matchplay (knowing it was 5 when he said 4) you have to bring it up before you play from the next tee otherwise it stands (if you knew the facts at the time).

I try not to let people break the rules, by simply suggesting they check the rule book and offering mine ... I don't look to DQ people based on the words of others. Having played in league matches I have come across some pretty shifty customers, but the ones who call up rules and try to get strokes added on poor knowledge are my pet hate.. It's gamesmanship of the lowest quality, they should get banned as quickly as the habitual cheat, because that is what they are.

Thank you for seeing it my way (also the rule book way)

I try not to let people break the rules, .

Is not as easy as that, 2 scenarios, (scenario 1 where you can tell someone and help them) Guy takes a drop and ball rolls closer to the hole you can then tell him he has to drop again as ball is closer to the hole, (scenario 2 where you cant help) guy grounds club in the bunker.
