When I thought it about time to trade in my driver I asked Golfbidder for a quote. I emailed the details and awaited the reply. Flipping heck they offered me £55.00 for a mint and I mean mint! Mizzy mp600, cheek, especially as they are selling USED Ping g10's for £150.00, my local store Eagle golf center has em brand new for £149.00. Anyone else had insulting trade in quotes?

Me as well Drawboy they offered me £280 for a set of Cally x22 Tours that were only a month old paid £545 for as said before at least Robin Hood wore a mask when he robbed you.

That's how they make money.
I like Golfbidder and would use them (despite these things) but I expected as much. The trouble is that the "value" of gear is difficult to judge.
I have seen stuff for sale on here that is MORE used than new, but I have to keep my mouth shut.
Some shops flog off stuff ever so cheap and as I've seen many items new for less than used on Golfbidder.
I know it's dissappointing....bad luck.

to be fair to them I got offered £120 for my old TM Rac irons, Direct Golf offered me £50 as part ex !! Another shop offered me £90, so the £120 wasn't bad. Sold them to a forum member in the end for the £120

Golfbidder offer half of what they value them at. I sold some MX19s to them and got £100 and a couple of weeks later they where on their site for £220!! They also offered me £30 for a Yes! Callie that was 2 months old...

American Golf use them to give you quotes for part-ex deals so you would be best imho flogging kit on Ebay and pocketing the difference.

That said the kit they sell is always in good nick and their 7 is very good.

Their 7 may be good but you can bet they got 'em for a song, I know people have to make money and you don't have to take their offer but I found the offer insulting.I have bought a mizzy wedge from them condition 6 and to be honest I was dissapointed with the condition of the club but couldn't be bothered to send it back. Yes I know I should have but I had it so I stuck it in the bag anyway.

I asked for a quote on my TM R580 5 wood, perfect condition, Stiff Grafalloy shaft. I received the reply today....
£35
I thought that was fairly reasonable but not good enough for me to bite their hand off. I'll be holding onto it for now.

They are a business and their objective is to make money. If you don't like their offers then you don't have to accept them. I've bought stuff from them in the past and its always been better than the description.
They get a lot of their stuff from Pro shops that can't sell items or close down.
They are expensive but worth it as you won't get a fake club.

I've only had what I thought were good offers from them through shops I wanted to px in.

MP-32 3-PW £160
MX-560 £50
Bettinardi C-01H £80

The putter was the only one I took. I'd bought it brand new on ebay a couple of months previously for £60! :)

I find it unacceptable that AG use them to source a price when taking P/X gear. It always comes back with a ludicrously low offer as the site assumes it is a bid going to them. AG come back with the price, take the gear and make a huge profit on it.

To be honest I'd rather sell it privately to my mates on here, via my pro shop or at the end of the day give it to a school or club for youngsters to use.

Why do you find it unacceptable? If Golfbidder have become the "industry standard" for offer prices for 2nd hand gear then why shouldn't AG, club pros, et al use them (yes AG etc USE the service that Golfbidder provide free). Don't tell me that if you were (say) looking to sell a car you wouldn't try to get a guide price somewhere first before advertising it.

No doubt, many people on here would get a quote from Golfbidder for their gear that they wanted to sell, add say 50 - 70%, and then try to sell it on.

My gripe isn't with AG per se its the fact that golfbidder offers such a riduculous trade in price. As it happens I know the guys in my local AG (I use to be good friends with the previous manager too when he was in post which was even better for P/X) and so I can normally haggle a price directly without having to go through the golfbidder say £x

Most pros I know don't use golfbidder or any other site but give you a quote based on what they see in front of them. Sometimes my pro will give me a good price (£40 for a wedge I only bought for £65 new) and other times it'll be stuff he'll struggle to get rid of and so won't do a P/X which is fair enough

So why ....

Why bring AG into your comments when your problem lies with Golfbidder's prices?

Because in my opinion AG staff like most pros should have a better feel for the quality of what is in front of them. It wasn't a direct gripe with AG, particularly as I use to get very good discounts. I know most car dealers if you want to use that analogy will use Price's or whatever the industry book price is now, but won't use it as gospel as AG seem to do. They'll use it as a reference guide and then use their knowledge of the market, the model (car or club in AG's case) and then make a starting P/X offer.

Hit the nail on the head Homer,Last year a mate of mine traded in a quality well known club @ AG £40 mate we sell them on to golfbidder. Two months later my mate came across his old club in AG for £120.00.Not a gripe @AG but you have to know what your gear is worth take a look @ a well known auction site and golf bidder to see what the going rate is.I wont ever deal with AG after once visiting a store and heard the comments of one of the sales staff.

What I tend to do is log on to EBay and check the completed listings for the item to get an idea how much they are selling for, that way you avoid GB takling 100% profit on every item.

If I found out my pro was using golfbidder for partx then I would stop using him all together.

As usual, murph, you sum it up pretty succinctly

The fact is, if you want the best price for something, you have to cut out the middle man - but then going out and finding a buyer yourself is invariably going to demand more effort and and prove more time-consuming

The way I see it you have a choice - either the simple sale and less money, or the tougher sell for potentially more money. You can't have it both ways...

absolutely, when I sold my irons, I probably could have got £30 - 50 more on ebay, but would then have had to pay ebay fees, paypal fees, and take the risk of them not selling. Just wasn't worth the hassle to me, so a forum member got them at the golfbidder rate
