Golf World Top 100 Courses 2014 review - Biased?

It always makes me chuckle when these top 100/50/10 lists come out.
It's all in the opinion of those producing it.
And the fervour that some people express when their fave doesn't make the list or is below one that they don't rate can be hilarious.

As already mentioned over the years both GM and GW have done top hidden gems, top value for money and one or two other top 50/100 based on certain criteria, rather than just sticking to the top 100 courses, the majority of which most golfers won't be able to play on a regular basis. And I'm sure one of the mags is currently doing a top 10 courses in all the regions in the UK, where they highlight so many regions each issue.

I do like those features to be honest as I feel like I can have more of a chance of playing them and it's always great to see a hidden gem or good value course close to you that you were not aware of. But then again I like all the top 100 lists as lists are catnip to most blokes.

Indeed, and big sellers too. Look at the FHM top 100 sexiest women issue, they sell double the number of a normal issue. Presumably because blokes have to buy two so they can cut out the pictures are rearrange them in the correct order. The could solve the problem by only printing on one side, or ensuring that some scrubber who just turned up in Eastenders isn't declared the 5th sexiest woman in the world while Amber Heard languishes in the 20s.

Not that I do that.

The list is subjective and the panellists opinion if will create a talking point and divide opinion always when published
woodhall spa hotchkin is in at 18.
above royal Liverpool at 29, it is extremely difficult to pick apart these lists when generally we only get chance to play a handful of them.
out of the top courses I have played

Birkdale
Woodhall
Ganton
Royal Liverpool
Royal Aberdeen
Cruden Bay
Hillside
Hollinwell
Woburn Dukes
Woburn Duchess

Appear in a similar order to how I would rate them.
Royal Liverpool better than Hillside and royal Aberdeen - controversial. Maybees you just like saying the word "Liverpool".;)

As someone said before, your man in the street opinion of a course may be clouded by how he played that course, i'm sure these guys doing reviews in mags must go though a set criteria?
