Got the mag and the supplement and it does make interesting reading. A few contentious ones like the Trump but by and large all the major contenders are in there and I'd be interesting to compare the names side by side with the GM version. I'm sure there won't be too many differences other than the rankings and at the end of the day these are always going to be subjective anyway

It will be different with the GM lovefest for a very mediocre Castle Stuart.

I'll also not beat about the bush with the old course. If it wasn't for the history of the place it would struggle to make top 50.

As I've said FT Royal Aberdeen pisses on Northern contenders chips each and every time.

its all about opinions dodge ,you rate goswick very highly ,and after 5 rounds there i wouldnt rush back, nice course but certainlly not open quailfier class, didnt feel as if i was missing much if i never played it again ,but its all about opinions

best course in north of scotland and south of scotland come to think of it has to be dornoch by far, if you can show me a harder and more enjoyable at the same time, as a course like that im all ears
Most over-rated course in Scotland? Well that would be Royal Dornoch, Nairn is miles better.

11.5 now ive just not updated

now if i remember right patrick you played off 10 on monday and 9 on thursday ,now explain that 1 to me

No i din't i played off 9 both days, not that it made any diif with you buch of bandits. I remember you asking me on the first tee "you off 10" how Dare you its 9, both days:)

i've played a few of the courses mentioned and I'll die a happy man, when i can fathom how you can rank a course that's never been played. Pure speculation and marketing hype.Send the combover back to the States.

Likewise Nairn, opinions, opinions as you say....I would just add after playing golf over the weekend and seeing what he has just typed re the Old Course & Castle Stuart anything he says about golf courses will be taken with a huge pinch of salt by myself.

Hark at the oracle. Give a man a job in golf and he's suddenly the voice and fountain of all knowledge.

Fat Tiger and I are booked onto the Trump Course on different days in July. We will no doubt post reviews when we have had the pleasure. I will, however, say that if the photos of the place are anything to go by then we are in for an absolute treat. Can't wait

I've no doubt it will be an excellent experience Cameron, I would love to be there playing it as well. But as I say, I find it odd that a "Top 100" can include a course that nobody has played yet. Surely it is a contender for this accolade, without a doubt. But to actually sit in a position???? Is it the fact that it is so expensive to play that has put it there? Surely price is not a guarantee that it will be "best?". Some of the "best" courses that I have played have been the little gems that cost bugger all to get on to, but provide a really tough test.

I agree that £150 is alot to pay for a knock but it is only going to get more expensive there. I think Golf worls panel are to be commended for thier decision. There are many courses ranked higher than they shouuld be because they have a long history. Imagine where thee Trump course will move to once its had a few years to settle in and its in line to host a Ryder Cup/Scottish Open. I think it will move even higher up the rankings.

you must be on the wind up or never played dornoch
I've played both, Nairn is a far superior track. Dornoch has the more stunning views, but it is a much poorer course, the 16th is a horrendous hole, the 6th a nothing hole, the 7th ridiculous. TBH, I'm struggling to differentiate most of the rest of the course from memory, which is something I rarely have trouble with, not a good sign. Will certainly never go back there, but will without doubt take on Nairn again.

If it wasn't for Tom Watson, I doubt it would get the rave reviews it does. It's not a bad track, but Nairn is better, Lossie (both courses) are better, Cruden Bay is better, RA is better. Panmure is better.

its all about opinions hughjars,i hope cruden is better got 4 rounds there in july in there open week for £80, but think your pushing it abit the saying panmure is better,8 of us walked off there last year think it was very ordinary course, but we could all be wrong, agree 16th at dornoch aint great, but 6th a nothing hole,?? it was for me i had an 8 there ,5 off the tee, 7th after hitting good drives we all still had around 280yrds to green,
i shot gross 95 and 97 in the comps i found it very hard but enjoyable at the same time
what do you play off hugh just it dont say? are you low guy who ripped it up or a high guy who struggled like myself

Play off 5. Played it on a very windy day in their 36er, just missed the prizes.

Also played Nairn off the Championships last year in the King Trophy, also in a howler, shot 82 and also just missed the prizes (6th nett I think).

There were 3 of us there, one who is a links fanataic and who we have trouble to get entering any open if it's inland, and none of us will head back up there again, the other two play Nairn every year. (And they're both Cruden Bay members fwiw.)
