Golf W***d latest Top 100 ranking

Have any of you seen the latest top 100 ranking in 'the other magazine' this month? Some real surprises in there, Trump's new course in Aberdeen has gone straight in at #8 and it's not even open yet!
I've played half of the courses on the list and I have to say, some of the results are very surprising. Courses that wouldn't even get into the top 100 that I've played are in there, never mind being in the best in the UK&I.

Any thoughts on what you've seen in the list?
 
I thought it was quite accurate for the top ten to be honest. Glad to see Dornoch climbing into top 10. Think Nairn is the obvious stand out for being ranked too high.

Good to see Machrihanish Dunes now getting the credit it deserves. Still don't get the hype surrounding Castle Stuart though. Trumps course will rise to number one within 5 years guaranteed.
 
I subscribe to both GM and GW. I love their top 100 lists. They are always going to create debate. I am glad that RCD is now number 1. I await my round at Trump with added excitement after this list was published. The course looks awesome. I have only played 23 of the current 100 but hope to add 5 more in July!!!

how do you know Nairn is ranked too high, you've never played it have you?

I would rank Nairn in the top 25 on the list without hesitation. Place was superb when I played there in 2010. Friendly staff and a tough course with amazing greens. Might have to get a game arranged in late July Patrick . I need to re-enforce my thoughts on the place

Firstly I saw you online.

Secondly I'll be playing it with you in July August.

Thirdly your right I ain't played it but I have caddied for my mate in the Scottish Amateur years back and in my opinion it didn't even lace the boots of Machrihanish or Western Gailes.

Glad you were hooked little fishy.

I can't comment on WG not had my game there yet with the new Sec who's a member at Nairn, but i would rank Nairn Way above either Machrihanish course.

But its only my op, just like these top 100 guides.

agree about CS, don't get it myself, glad i don't have to pay when i play there, for free its OK ;)

Nairn shouldn't be in the top 50....what number is it?65 may be about right.

I presume Royal Aberdeen is rightly highest ranked among the North of Scotland courses is it?

If not then it tells you all you need to know about how these rankings are contrived.

best course in north of scotland and south of scotland come to think of it has to be dornoch by far, if you can show me a harder and more enjoyable at the same time, as a course like that im all ears
 
Got the mag and the supplement and it does make interesting reading. A few contentious ones like the Trump but by and large all the major contenders are in there and I'd be interesting to compare the names side by side with the GM version. I'm sure there won't be too many differences other than the rankings and at the end of the day these are always going to be subjective anyway
 
I compared the previous lists and I think about 98 of the courses were the same a few were in different places but that is as stated subjective and the opinion of the reviewer. I can understand there love of trump int after being allowed access prior to it's opening I does look good in the pics.
 
i played nairn with patrick a couple of weeks ago , very enjoyable course and a good test off the whites with no wind ,so with alot of wind would think it would be a proper test, front 9 alnog the sea front very nice back 9 totally differnt more parkland feel ,odd weak par 4 but still very good, carnt understand everybodys beef with this place , good solid test of golf, last year i went to saunton golf week and i thought it was way overrated and i ve had people say to me i must be mad, but its all about opinions,
