Golf Things That Gladden The Heart

We had an Albatross yesterday..on our 18th....477 yards but a down, up, down and up hole...
Drives normally pitch on the upslope so little run....
Albatross made with a 6 iron, 1 putt combo.
Not bad.....

Although the tee was 320 yards forward as the proper tee was closed and the hole measured 155 yards...:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Does it count?

This really confused me... Are you saying you have a 155 yard par 5??

Some of the lads I play with would be insisting they receive their 2 shots. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

At the moment..yes...
The 18th tee and first 300 yards are so wet they can barely walk on it without drowning...so, for now, they've moved the tee up to the first area that's dry enough...still says Par 5 on the card🤣
We had something similar with our 17th a few years ago. Went from a difficult par 4 to a really short par 3 (tee up and temp green). Also, as it was SI 3, lots of us high handicaps also retained our 2 shots- much annoyance from the 'real' golfers when we got a 3 for 5 :ROFLMAO:

Similar happened at my old place years ago. The second hole was the hardest hole on the course (although it was stroke index 3, but anyone who played there knew it was the hardest) - 470 off the whites but bafflingly, a par 4, plus the tee shot faced you towards a ditch on the right, while the fairway was off to the left, so near impossible for faders like me. Then one year they were doing some work on the 1st for a couple of months, so they split the 2nd into two holes - from the tee you would play to a green about 150 yards down, and then the "2nd" was now an easy 270-yard par 4 instead. I was getting two shots on it as I was off 21 in those days, so was happily taking my par for 4 points every week. Until the work was done and I went back to making 7 for 1.

We also have SI 1 closed...a 400 yard par 4...we have an emergency hole that comes into play if another is closed..it's a 130 yard par 3...someone got 5 points on it the other day🤣

Only as much as my albatross counts …on a par 4 temp tee to temp green (hole basically out of play but hey we wanted there to be 18 holes) all of 49yds. I won’t claim the hole-in-one but the albatross? 😘🤣

Nah…thought not.

We have a similar shortened hole at the moment. 500 yard par 5, but we have been playing it off the forward (ladies) tee this year which is only 380 yards.

It's up hill so usually plays longer than 500 yards, but off the forward tees I can drive it over the crest of the hill. Now I know what a tour player feels like, hitting a mid or even short iron into the green for my second shot. I've made birdie all 4 rounds this year, picking up 4 points every time, but it doesn't give me the satisfaction of a "genuine" birdie.

I got an Eagle at the weekend, but on a par 5 with a temp green! You can take that eagle from my cold, dead hands. 🦅 🦅

43 pts in pairs better ball, top of the winter league and through to the knockouts, with 44/44/41/43 pts as our best 4 scores. We can’t make the final round, but won’t need to play!

My partner and I had a gross better ball score of -24 through 4 rounds, he was about level par on his own ball and I can’t have been more than +10!

Solid handicap cut for both me and the boy after yesterdays visit to Woodhall Spa.

Both had shaky front nines as we figured out the strategy and pace of the greens on The Hothckin. Basically keep it on the fairway and you'll score well, if you go in the cabbage or a bunker it's probably going to cost you at least a shot. The lad was 2 over on run in from the halfway house and I was 4 over - considering I've hardly played this year, I was more than happy with that.

Course was outstanding, greens were unbelievably good given the amount of rain we've had. We'll be having a trip back there at some point. £170 for the both of us to play a course like that I thought was great value.

The course opened this morning, first time in two weeks. Unfortunately, I won't be taking advantage of this until Friday, unless of course the forecast is wrong, and we have rain of biblical proportions between now and then
