Welcome to my world. It’s for this reason that I don’t enter any of our senior competitions.

Following on from the I played today thread.

Results are in for the Charity day, I’ve won lowest Gross which has got me a voucher which can be exchanged for a free round of golf or a short game clinic with club pro (I’ve opted for the round of golf) Also won the longest drive which is a dozen Vice Pro Drip balls, Vice Cap. (@Tashyboy after your question about the balls now I can give you a full run down as I have extras now 🤣)

To top it off our team was literally just pipped by the last group to 3rd spot overall by a single shot. But overall a great days golf now I’ve got to go dry all the gear off 🤣.

Strange how, golfers expectations are lower or higher than others. Lowest Gross score is something I will never ever get. But Thursday I shot 40 for the front nine. I have never ever got anywhere near that. 46 on the back screwed up my lowest ever score. Yet to some that’s bang average. Once more a very good score for me was ruined with a blob/7 on the 16th🤬
Your lowest Gross, my 40 is what’s entices us back far some more after a hard season.

I was surprised how much I enjoyed greensomes format when I played mixed greensomes for the first time during the week. It felt very different to foursomes.

I think what made it different and fun was that the element of choosing which tee shot to use for the next shot was a very important part of our thinking, knowing that whoever played the tee shot chosen wouldn’t be playing the next shot. And that’s important if you think about it - which I didn’t at first but came to realise as the round progressed.

Add in the club req. that the tee shot of both in a pair had to be used six times and that with ladies off their normal tees my partners tee shot was very often up with mine.

Sceptic of the format no more.

Over the years I’ve realised expectations on a golf course mean nothing to me. They used to mean far to much and I used to put so much pressure on myself to hit a number and it’s why I walked away from playing for years as I started to hate it. But nowadays I don’t do that I just go out and try to play the best I can, enjoy the company and the course if I play crap so be it the only thing it affects is my handicap and let’s be honest what that in the grand scheme of life, it’s naff all. It’s felt so freeing since coming back to playing taking that attitude as a result it’s seen my scores dropping because I’m just enjoying it and not getting annoyed at anything on the course. There still the odd frustrations that’s natural but no more pressure or dwelling on it.

But you’re right pal it an annoying game that keeps us coming back. Keep plugging away now you hit that 40 once you know you can do it again. I have faith in the Tash😍

On a side note yesterday rounds got me cut to 2.5 😊 that’ll be last scoring round this year I think.

For those of you that are still waiting, there is always hope.

The opening paragraph :

Lyn Parry, 74, has achieved a remarkable golfing feat, enjoying no fewer than THREE holes-in-one in a month - at the estimated odds of 1.95 trillion to one.

No, not in my head ........................... ever.
It's Hole-in-ones, not Holes-in-one.

It’s the odds that get me. It’s madness how much luck there is. Just working it out between my dad and, brother and myself there’s about 120 years of golfing experience and absolutely zero hole-in-ones made 😳

Me, after Thursdays rounds am plummeting to 17.4, 😂. To say I was 21.7 at the beginning of the year and expected to hit 23-25 Hcap because my game had gone. Am taking that as a minor moral victory 😄
One of our fuddle is in his seventies and plays off about 2. He is a Fantastic fanatical golfer. He had 3 months out through back problems and has started back golfing. He is getting so angry with himself on the course as he is not back to his best. Yet he has never just been able to enjoy the golf be it good, bad or ugly.
Re the Grand scheme of things. Having done 4 hrs of poppy stall in ASDA this morning til 12.15. A Parade at Mansfield rugby club. The highlight was seeing 6 yr old Kobe walking with the troops. He wears his aunties medals. She took her own life through PTSD. He went on Parade carrying a 2ft plastic Poppy like a shield. He looked proud and amazing. He is an Honorary member of the branch, a Kinda mascot. His uncle made the Poppy shield out of a plastic chair found in a skip.

The Email from the Ladies and the Gents Captains on Friday making clear that 4hr 30 min and over is not acceptable for a round of golf - especially for ‘out of comp season’ winter golf - not even if four are playing in a group. They have usual hints and tips for maintaining pace of play.

The difficult truth for the club and members is that that quite a few of us think that the problem is we play a club 4BBB winter league comp over winter, and many playing in it treat every match they play as if they were playing in final qualifying for the open. But hey. Try changing the format of that winter comp and hear the moans and protests,

I’ve heard a lot of people recently suggesting people playing in comps or matches are taking it to seriously! Surely that’s the point of playing these type of comps though you want to win so if they’re taking it seriously I fail to see how that’s a bad thing.

It doesn’t have to affect pace of play, could the club in its email not reiterate how 4BBB works in best practice to maintain the pace of play within the allocated time window. If issues then occur sanctions can be made.
