Golf Things That Gladden The Heart

The course is in pretty darned good condition for the England Mixed Under 18s - starting tomorrow with Practice Day...and weather looks set fair for rest of week and weekend also. Back even as recent as early May I was looking and worried it wouldn't be ready...but it is (y)

Cracking day today at the club doing a (long) stint ball-spotting for the 2nd Round of the England Mixed U18 Championship. The course stood up well to the magnificent golf these U18s can play, with only 15 players out of 132 level par or better after the two rounds…and good to have a couple of girls in the mix. Big cheer later on following our Junior Captain…with him holing a 20ft putt on the last to make the cut.

Anyway - two rounds tomorrow with end of 3rd and 4th rounds broadcast live on club YouTube channel - it’s going to be very warm indeed. Anyone interested here’s the Day 2 review…(shows quite a lot of the course looking great - though the opening 2min vid is from our website and not today).

2hrs on the short game area this morning, cloudy with some wind so spot on weather wise, managed to practice some bits from my last lesson and starting to feel more comfortable.

Watching the playoff for our club championship livestream on instagram yesterday evening. Two players level on +2 after 36 holes over 2 days (+1 and 8 handicap). Still level after 4 holes playoff and +1 eventually won on the 6th playoff hole.

Having a mini-break in Notts this week. Free accommodation at Dad's house with a couple of pals and 4 rounds booked at non-premium but lovely looking courses - all around £20 with county card.

That's how much a count card should be! Some places with their token £5-10 off a really expensive green fee

Enjoy! Lots of lovely courses in Notts for reasonable money. Everyone talks about Hollinwell, Coxmoor and Sherwood Forest, and they deserve their praise, but there's plenty of good golf to be had without paying a fortune. I like Radcliffe, Ruddington, Rushcliffe and Rufford.

Please report on the 8 handicap's new handicap!

He started the month with a HI of 8.8 and is now 5.6 after 7 cards this month. He was 7.7 before the 1st round, shot 72 for differential of .8 and 74 in 2nd round, differential 2.5. He has 7 of his counting scores in the last 8 rounds. He has been as low as 1.6 in 2019 but only for a month and been between 6 and 9 before now.

Just found out I am going to get a nice bonus in my next pay packet so can not go and buy the nice shiny new TM Spider putter that I have been yearning after. Just need to decide whether to go stock or splash out the extra £50 for a nice funky paint job (thinking grey with orange highlights) and special headcover?

Greenkeepers' revenge event this past weekend - loads of fun - rakes and hoses on greens, having to use a crap putter or driver on a hole, holes cut in the rough or on the slope of a bunker - once a year event and looking forward to next year's already.
