Golf Things That Gladden The Heart

Our halfway house ‘relaunching’ with decent hot food and snacks and going to be open set hours at weekends instead of just when they can get a random student to man it. Food and beverage slightly let down the club and good to see they are trying to improve it to match all the hard work they have put into the course.

Our halfway house was condemned a few years back - the decking at the front is unsafe - so wish they'd open it back up as the clubhouse is about 100 metres from the point where the 11th green, 18th green, and 1st tee are located. It's also handy for the start and finish of our smaller 18 hole course and it's on the route of a public footpath - it really should and could be a gold mine but the club don't appear to have ant plans to bring it back into operation.

6.30 this morning and I’m on the practice ground warming up alongside the folks with early tee times. Weather’s nice and its early enough that its only 27 degrees
50 balls later working mainly on takeaway/direction through the bag and off to the short game area for 20minutes with 54wedge for pace chipping then 20min on practice putting green also working on pace

All in all a productive couple of hours this morning until I had to go to office…

The Trackman range I've been going to recently, for some reason they don't have a ball machine, the lad working there just makes the basket up by hand. Works out great as last night I paid for 50 balls and actually received around 66 or 67 by my calculations, which is probably the perfect number. 50 never feels like quite enough whereas 65-ish means you can a little bit on short game at the end. 😁

God knows how many he gave me when I asked for 100 a few weeks ago - no wonder my hands were cut and bruised afterwards.
Is this the one at the top of the highstreet in Bushey??

I would probably do the same if it wasn’t dark and 3° C at 06:30 here in the UK.

Dry(ish) weather over last few weeks has enabled us to get on with some flood remediation work - raising an area of one fairway that is on the natural watercourse across the course from neighboring fields and on another raising a path that crosses the watercourse.

Extreme run-off from fields these last three or four years has been flooding badly across four holes and saturated fairways and rough on a couple of others. We've done works over last three years that seem to have mitigated the significant impact of the run-off on two holes. What we've done these last few weeks will hopefully see the impact of the run-off fully remediated...well that's what we hope. Also done a lot of sand banding on a couple of fairways that get saturated - banding likely to still be obvious this year - but by next they should be grown over.

The neighboring farmer has also said he'd do additional planting (of grass?) to reduce the level of silt in the run-off from his fields. We'll see. If the run-off continues as silt-laden as it currently is we'll just have to put up with chocolate water (very sandy soil locally) in ditches and a couple of ponds and deal with any areas in play that silt is deposited - though the idea of the works is to contain the run-off (and hence silt deposits) in specific areas and ditches/swales that are not in play.

My ECCO winter shoes split last week out the blue. Out of warranty

Nipped down to a local clobber . £5 he charging to repair them

Bargain

Went to range and then chipping ground to try out what I was taught in my short game lesson yesterday. And it works...without the pro/coach standing over me telling me what to do 😃

And as my 4 hybrid worked on the range as well as my test 5 hybrid did yesterday...the order for the 5 hybrid went in this afternoon - Ping 440.

Still 11 days to go in march and the golf courses of damp northern England are already drying out nicely. Hopefully a decent year ahead for once for everyone 👍

Did a practice session late afternoon yesterday . It was lovely being out in the sun, a blue cloudless sky, no wind and warmth in the air. The practice session went well - which was nice given I had paid my subs earlier.
