A thread for folks to moan about golf gear they’ve got/bought that just doesn’t do the job… and for others to jump in and tell us that; actually it does work it's just that we’re doing it wrong and need to do xyz

I'll kick off with the 'microfibre' golf towel. I have a couple plus several traditional cotton golf towels and the difference in how effective they are is huge

Microfiber isn't absorbent, slides across metal surfaces way too easily to do what you want from a golf towel & it doesn't get into the groves like cotton ones. The only thing it has going for it is, it is slightly lighter/more compact than cotton golf towels

as a bolt-on whinge : I also hate the longer golf towels (cotton or microfibre). On a stand bag they just drag on the ground whenever the bag is stood on its legs. What's the bleedin point in that!

What you got that just doesn't do it...?

Wooden tee pegs - they break too easily.
Plastic ones are prone to snapping.
The best tee pegs are the rubbery frustums, tied together with string.

Irons - the heads clatter together in the bag, suffer repeated minor damage, shortening their lifespan and usefulness.
But iron covers can rectify this to a great extent. They ought to be supplied with every new set of irons just like they do with woods, hybrids and putters.

Yes of the three you listed are much better for the environment as they will biodegrade unlike the others. Plus you can use the broken the bits on Par 3's :)
I've never understood the hate for iron covers so i'm with you on that one even though i don't have any. People pay £1000+ for a set of irons but get people treated like a leper for using them.

These. If you're looking at a ball that's out the open that would be visible anyway, then yes it looks slightly brighter. If it's under a leaf or in a bush, then no, you still can't see it. 😂
My MiL bought me them for Christmas a few years back she thought they were genius, I think they went in the bin as soon as she left our hours :ROFLMAO:

This is a whole other debate that has been had many times I'm sure, but this is a weak argument to me. Yes they are biodegradable but you go through at least 6 of them a round and leave the broken bits lying around all over the place. Whereas my pink castle tee is near-indestructible, I use one all the way round and leave nothing behind. Even on the rare occasion I lose it after a shot, I usually find two others during the round that I'll pick up, so in net profit anyway. They don't need to be biodegradable when you keep reusing them for a decade.

Do they still make plastic ones. I see more of the wooden castle tees these days. I just leave them as I only use 70 mm wooden ones. Height adjustable.

I don't know, I haven't needed to buy any pink castle tees since about seven years ago. That was kind of the point I was making. 😃

I have been playing golf for 55 years.
I have never bought a tee peg in my life.

On two occasions I have put 100 pink castles on a table in the bar. I still own several and I will use one sometimes - usually white ones for me.

For me things that just don't do it..

Tri-Fold golf towels! Absolutely pointless just use a normal towel. I was bought one and it literally gets used to clean mine and Mrs M's shoes after a round as is its pointless on the bag

Also +1 for some of the new Colours of balls. Yellow works well, but these drip balls they look good but hit one in the rough and might as well reload

My Mrs bought me an expensive microfibre towel for my lawn bowls.
Waste of money I thought.
Not at all, It has been really useful, no matter how wet it is a quick squeeze and it is good to go.

I have owned a couple of golf towels but they're rubbish. Another case of adding the word golf to a product to make it more expensive and less effective.
Attached to each of my golf bags for ages I now just have the microfibre cloths that are intended for general domestic or car cleaning. They're cheap, last for ages and are extremely effective. These things... https://uk.e-cloth.com/products/4cp-general-purpose-cloths-5

Better still you can get cotton facecloth/flannels for a pound each or less. I just stick a carabiner through it and away you go
