I live in Northampton and have a number of nice course around but in April I am having a couple of weeks off and was wondering if anyone could recommend some golf course that are within traveling distance. Im going to the belfy during this time (playing the derby course :) ) but I fancy something different. Any recommendations are welcome.

East Midlands within reach?

If so I would highly recommend Belton Park (£45 ish a round or £20 with a member - there is at least one on the forum)

You've also got Woodhall Spa - pricey, but one of the top rated courses in the UK.

I personally wouldn't bother with The Derby - there are far better courses in the region. Woodhall has already been mentioned, but why not consider the Arden course at The Forest of Arden? An absolute belter.

Aston Wood across the road from Little Aston, while not as good as Little Aston, is probably pound-for-pound better.

Sorry Rosecott, can`t agree there. Plenty leaving from there again at the moment. Farmer has recently bought it back as they went bump again. Also it is not an interesting place to play to my mind. LA knocks spots off it.

Also would steer clear of The Derby at The Belfry.

Little Aston, Beaudesert and Forest of Arden get all the plaudits, but try Whittington too. You will not be disappointed.

where do you play in northampton Glenkov and which courses locally do you class as nice?

I play Brampton, Cold Ashby and Silverstone. They are no where near the level of the courses that have been suggested but for the level that I am at (24 handicap) I would say they are nice.

Was just curious as am in Milton Keynes and still relatively new to the area. By Brampton do you mean Northampton County? if so thats a great course, Silverstone is pleasant, not played Cold Ashby - is it worth playing?

I have to admit it's 3 years since I played Aston Wood and, from what you say, it seems to have gone downhill. I was definitely not putting it in the same League as Little Aston but I thought it good value when I last played it.

Brampton is next to the Northampton County course. I really like Cold Ashby but it is extremely hilly so you will be in for a good walk plus on a Tuesday its £10 a round which isn't to be sniffed at.

Perhaps Collingtree Park? Not far to travel and I always enjoy it. Challenging but fair and a cracking final hole.
