Hi, Ive got a day tommoro with nothing to do so am looking to go to a golf shop, the bigger the better. I live near Norwich but am willing to travel a couple of hours has anyone got any suggestions please. Thanks Dave

Are there any American Golfs (check their website for local stores) which are attached to ranges. Much better to hit shots you can see fly rather than rely a small bay and a pc to measure how far and straight you hit it

Thanks for that but I think there is only one American golf near me and that is not near a range and is not very big at all. Thanks Dave

Hunstanton is only bout an hour away, Is the shop there big with plenty of gear, is there a rangge there too please. When I said 2 hours travelling i meant 2 hrs each way so am willing to go as far as london.

Wow you seem eager / keen what is it exactly you are looking for? Or do you just want to go for a fun day out trying the latest gear offerings?

There won't be any need to go to London though! If you don't find anything nearer Direct Golf, Cambridge will suit your needs perfectly. Loads of gear, a great range set up and a good place to try out new gear. http://www.direct-golf.co.uk/stores/storeDetails/?storeID=13

I don't know if you are looking for something particular, but would you not rather spend the day on the course than driving 2 hours each way to a shop? This is just my opinion though and if it is because you want to try something with the view to buying than go ahead and have a good time. It just seems pretty random that's all.

Hi, thanks for that I think I will head there tommoro. I would rather be on the course but im playing saturday and Monday and have a society next Friday so promised the better half i would spend the day with her, the golf shop will be a serprise for her sure she wont mind (i hope).

Fair enough mate, if hid doesn't play the place has a good restaurant / bar attached with comfortable seating, televisions and in places a view out onto the range so she can see you swinging away. Thats should help soften the blow when you break the news ;) (The place has been given a serious facelift since the time in which most of the pictures on the link were taken) Have fun.

Crikey. A 2 hour drive just to watch you smack a few balls about.

If I tried that on SWMBO, she'd be wearing my balls as a necklace.

GL and WP that man.

Thanks I know the place just of the a47 beside a roundabout. Which course did you play at barnham did you enjoy it. Its one of my favs i play a couple of society days there each year

At last someone who lives near me , thought I was the only one on here from Norwich area. Are you a member anywhere or just a casual golfer at the moment ?

AG is tiny and not worth the trip in Norwich

Chris Potters is fine to try out clubs with the driving range right there , bit pokey but as someone said he does have some good deals. He's moving to the state of the art facility that is being built at Blofield (east norwich)

Barnham Broom is ok but its very corporate minded and a medal round usually takes about 5 hours..not for me thanks

Hi, im just playing at Diss golf club at moment with a member but considering joining there or Thetford going to see what deals are about. I play in a society as well and each year we play Bawburgh, Wensum Valley, barnham and Dunston. Are you a member of a club? Ive been to direct golf in Cambridge today it is a good size shop and staff are helpfull but there is a lot more stuff on there website.

Thanks for the suggestion, went there today and thought it was great, better than any other golf shop ive been to, treated myself to some very nice nike trousers at a good price.

I'm glad you got on all right. It is actually a very good facility now with the floodlit short game area, and decent range mats / balls etc. The staff are always very helpful as you alluded to in your other post, and if you get the right people very very knowledgeable as well. Also the prices are always competitive as they will price match any opposition even off the internet in most cases.

I haven't been there in quite a while though actually so I am due a trip :D

I play at http://www.weston-park.co.uk/pages.php/index.html
It's right by the Dinosaur park at Weston Longville

We have talked about playing there, I know the bloke who bought it not so long ago he owns Banham Zoo as well. What do you think of the course and club.

The course is absolutely superb , cant fault the layout. It meanders through somoe stunning woodland trees , each hole doesnt come into contact with another one so theres no blasting it off the tee onto other fairways. If youre off line then youre in the trees or a lost ball. You have to concentrate for 18 holes. Greens are nice and fast and plenty of slopes to keep you honest.

The clubhouse is a lovely old building , all in all its a lovely setting for a golf course and well worth a trip if you havnt played it.

The club though is another matter , its more of a husband and wife , old boy network (a social golfers paradise) They dont cater for the better player and arent interested in promoting competetive golf IMO. For example , if theres a comp on at the weekend they allow casual play at any time during the day. No block booking for say 3 hours so those in the comp can go off in there 3's , oh no any tom dick and harry can come and pay a green fee in there 4 balls and play right in amongst the comp.
