Golf shoes leaking from the top

Someone described this problem in passing in another thread.

My Footjoys are fine tramping along wet fairways, through wet rough and minor puddles.

But when it is raining, the rain runs off my trusty Galvin Green trousers, down the front of the leg and into my shoes where they lace up!
Now I finally know what those stupid kilties were for on traditional golf shoes!

I have been looking at hiking gaiters but they don't all cover the lace up part where the water gets in.

I assume a lot of other golfers have this problem, so what to you do?

I just endure wet feet

I always take a spare pair of socks for afterwards. Sometimes you just cant avoid some water ingress

Just cover your laces with a strip of gaffer tape before the round water will simply just run off

I already have a strip of gaffer tape down the inseam of my trousers where they began to fray!

Wear some SealSkinz socks, nice and waterproof, so doesn't even matter if your shoes are letting in water or soaked through.

I remember those tongues on the top of shoes. Never looked great even in the 70's. I tend to just pack some spare socks in my shoe bag but 9 times out of 10 its never too bad

A lot of shoes have a welted tongue(Puma for one). To stop the water getting in.

Never remove the gaffer tape during a medal round, we don't want another Lyle/Faldo moment!

Sealskinz socks are expensive but work really well for golf and hill walking.
I hate having wet feet anywhere except in the shower.

ah - you need some flared galvins mimms, that should solve the problem

They are excellent socks. I had some for fishing and they keep the feet warm and dry. Pricey but well worth it and probably cheaper than flared GG troos.

No, they have three layers with merino wool next to your skin.
Make sure you buy the right size. Dont buy ones that are bigger than what you normally wear.

Can sealskinz get a bit hot and sweaty?

They come in several thicknesses and styles so if you have sweaty feat (haha) you can get thinner socks, they are still just as waterproof.

If you dont mind sweaty and dont want to foot the cost of Sealskinz, try the bottom of a bin bag. :ears:
