I'm the big 40 this year and was hoping to play St. Andrews but not to be missed out on the Tee times and don't want to travel in hope of getting in by the Ballott. So we are going to go to Scotland by ferry from Ireland to play one of the Open venues was thinking of Royal Troon as it is close to the ferry anyone have any suggestion for other courses in the area Good but sub £50 green fees as we would be paying £150 for Royal Troon.Also anyone have any suggestions for places to stay. Or would anyone recommend one of the other Open courses instead of Royal Troon.

If you're getting the ferry to Stranraer you'll drive past Turnberry on the way up to Glasgow. It'd be a shame not to pop in on your way past

Pay a wee visit to the Arrange a Game Section and get your names down for Ballyliffin in june, looking like it gonna be a bargain price for 2 rounds and 2 nights B&B.

Farneyman, is there any chance of 3 visitors getting on your place on a Saturday morning??

We are over at St Andrews in May but on way home we staying overnight in Ayrshire and looking for a game on the Saturday morning before heading home. If not your place do you know of any decent tracks in the area that will take visitors on a Saturday morning, nothing too costly as the previous 3 days will have hit the wallet hard

Hi,
There will be 7/8 of us and will be getting the ferry from Larne to Troon. Can't commit to Ballyliffen in June as I'm playing the Atlantic Challenge the 4th of July for 3 days and then this trip in September, Donegal is the 3rd option if Scotland falls thru my uncle has a house in Donegal that we can stay in so that would tick off 4/5 more courses in my quest to play all the 18 hole links courses in Ireland.

Depending on date and it doesnt clash with a medal then no problems. Think you need to be with a member in morning as the visitors time is in the afternoon. I will confirm that at the weekend. If I am free I would be more than happy to sign you on in the morning.

When the Amateur Championship was played at Royal Troon, the other course used for Qualifiers was Kilmarnock (Barassie) GC, very nice course, should be around £50 for a round, situated just the other side of the town, 10 mins away. I think it is now an Open Championship Qualifier course as well

Are you wanting to stay on the west coast, or can you get over to the east?

If you can, there's around 10 top quality courses within about 20 miles of each other.
