Golf Opens 2025 (for us amateurs)

Full list to book so far Kidderminster Pairs in April, May Medal £20 VALUE, Seascale , Cumbria (top 100Uk) £20 end of July on route to Forres week, Scotland

Lots and lots but most will be balloted out having risen to 3.3 since early 2's last year.

A year in the wild #NOWORK turned into a fitness campaign

A guy in our group (group of about 20) goes through Golf Empire each year. He has just sent us a link to a spreadsheet, with all the opens listed in the county, and surrounding counties, for all of us to type in our availability for each one. Most of us usually end up in 6-12 Opens each year. I suspect he'll start booking us into Opens in the next few weeks.

Just looking at the breadsall priory 4bbb which is £60 for the team of 4. I guess that includes green fee and entry fee for the comp?

That would be normal.

I've picked up that at some expensive opens you get fed as part of the entrance. I've never played in one like that, a bag of crisps after the round will do me ?, most are as per this one. I don't know the course you are talking about but £15 pp for a game with some friends, hopefully they are friends, is pretty decent value.

I played a couple of club matches against Breadsall I the mid 2000,s. Can’t remember much of it to be fair. I have a singles event there this year.

This might be interesting for some. I'm paying the following for Opens in Northumberland and Co.Durham:

£12, £19, £25, £15, £20

My two favourite ones will be the £12 and £15 ones, not because of the price either :D

Any other opens I book will be in similar territory.

I've got 5 booked between April and August, £72 for the lot. Obviously not top class courses, but all decent enough, and will be a nice change of scenery.

I am sure there may be far more opens in Scotland, but there are several clubs near that only publicise their Opens on their own website, so a total off Golf Empire isnt the full story... :)
Ah, that could very well have been my issue, relying on GE to be the bible. Strange from clubs as listing is free.

My "opens" have a nice spread through the golf season

May 12th Friday County Golf Day Tracy Park - only one not booked up, rest are in the can!

May 23rd Tuesday Texas Scramble at Studley Wood, Oxfordshire.

June 23rd Friday Stinchcombe. Team Comp

July 28th Friday Enville. Team Comp Lodge Course

August 4th Friday Minchinhampton. Team Comp

September 3rd Sunday Broadway. 36 hole medal

Yes..... & that's why, in the NE, Seaton Carew at £30 a man is generally considered outrageously expensive!!:eek: However, all 6 days of their Festival Week in August are all but sold out!!
That week, for 8 of our guys traveling from Leeds, I've put together a Sunday Driver (Sun B/Ball, Mon 4-man Texas) with single rooms in a Premier Inn, breakfast & evening meal for the grand total of £140 each.

Also Beau Desert.

I've noticed some places are asking for six scores for h/c to be record in comps to collect prizes. Good idea, but a pain for me as the wife doesn't play in any. Just has general play cards in, but they are genuine scores.

A friend text me to say she has entered the ladies scratch salver at Royal County Down. It’s 36 holes and a practice round for £40, handicap cut off for entries (whilst it may be balloted) is just 12.4

I’m going to get a sex change. That is outrageous value and I’m so jealous and bitter ?

Excellent news imo.
Many clubs in Scotland now refusing to accept entries from "Open Play" members (that's the Scottish Golf scheme where you pay a monthly fee and submit GP cards for an official handicap), which is another positive

Apologies, so it is, poor show from Glenegales having near a year out of date info. That means the Kings won't be the Spring Open then as they rotate each year. Maybe email the lassie anyway and see the scoop for 2023?

I spoke to Gleneagles. No Spring Open this year.......they must simply be targeting full green fee visitors instead which is a shame.

Just added Lancaster in at the end of May. Got the Premier inn booked for two nights at £122 as well. That'll ding dang do for me. Especially as our usual places to stay have bumped their prices, one especially is outrageous. Although to be fair they were stupidly cheap for the last three years. Going from £80 (including free parking to £120 and no free parking). So the money saved will pay for the taxis in and out on town. Currently looking for a good course near Beau Desert that's around £20. Druids Heath was my first choice but they have bumped their prices. Shame, but a great course. I've found a place to stay for a couple of nights just need a course on the Monday.
