Golf Monthly Top 100

I would seriously like to see the findings on Burnham and Berrow that is 1 place ahead of Hillside.
B&B imo is miles behind

I would disagree

Clearly I would love to be a member at ANY renowned links course and obvs Hillside is objectively very good and well conditioned etc with some really marvellous holes - but I much preferred B&B > Hillside

Opinions though, just like something else, everyone has one😂

Genuine question, how recently have you played Burnham? They've made lots of improvements in the past few years.

And for the record, I'm not sure which of the two I prefer. It might be Burnham, but it's close from my perspective. (Others will disagree!) 😉

Therin lies the nature of the discussion. There's always these sort of debates, and it's rarely clear cut. Apart from the real whoppers!

Got a buddy at Aberdovey, who spits feathers that Harlech is ranked higher!

Yes played it recently twice and enjoyed it.
As others say it’s about opinions.
I just don’t walk around B&B really impressed especially the back 9 when Hillsides back 9 is special imho.

The course that stands out as way too highly rated for new is North Berwick, a nice quirky course, but better than Royal Troon, for example, not a chance.

Edit… I see NB is not above Royal Troon as it is on some lists. Perhaps GM has done a good job after all.

The back 9 was always amazing but the front nine since the changes have elevated Hillside to another level.

The only thing about Hillside - baring in mind I have only played it once, so memory may not be accurate - is that it was far too manicured for my tastes. Really it didn’t seem at all natural

My preference, as @IanM knows, is for holes like 2 and 3 at B&B, 8,9,12 at RSG, and most of them at Deal, with humps, bumps, undulations and crumpled land. The 18th at Wallasey is an immense example of this

10 and 11 at Hillside were clearly outstanding. Other people such as @IanM would have a better memory, having played them a lot more than once

Not played Troon but I’d say NB and Dunbar are pretty close.
Front 9 D > NB
Back 9 NB > D

Both were played on two perfect weather days and enjoyed them a lot. NB closing few holes took my breath away

I never understand why these lists combine UK and Ireland. Ireland is a separate country. Nobody ever combines UK with Netherlands for example, but it's just as close and just as separate.

Woburn has done some good networking / entertaining / marketing to facilitate all 3 of its courses to fit into the top 100.

Maybe it's where there target readership live and have ambitions of playing?

PS its also an Anglocentric point of view the UK has a contiguous border with ROI and Scotland (and probably IoM) are closer to the island of Ireland than any part of the UK is to the Netherlands.
