Played NB once and loved it , haven’t played Dunbar but a mate who regularly goes up there said it’s better than anything up there bar Muirfield
id certainly agree about WS, a few years ago it was barely in the top 50 now its clos to the top. no idea whyHaving read the full list the three surprises are Woodall Spa being too high, Liverpool is ahead of Lytham and Aberdeen () and Deal is far, far too low IMO

Been a massive improvement on the course over the last 5 years with Doak getting involved - it’s a great test of golf and excellent holes
Clearly a man with impeccable tastesPlayed NB once and loved it , haven’t played Dunbar but a mate who regularly goes up there said it’s better than anything up there bar Muirfield
I’d add Kilspindie to you list well before NB. I love that course. You're right Ken but then us 'Sunny Dunny' members will always a gripe about NB's over inflated rating !
There was another mags rating of Scottish courses that had NB at 5 !
Personally I think there's a strong case that's it's not in the top 5 in East Lothian
In no particular order I would, given the chance, play Muirfield, Gullane 1&2, both Archerfield courses, Dunbar and Luffness before venturing to NB (can't comment on Renaissance as I haven't played it)
That's not to say NB isn't a good course, this from someone who's always enjoyed playing there with a couple of mates that are members, shot under par a couple of times and had 2 holes in one, but honestly it's nowhere near it's rating given the quality of other courses which are rated much lower
Anyway that's just my tuppence worth I've no doubt others will disagree which is perfectly fine![]()

Par 3 (3rd?) down the hill isDunbar is probably the best course I've ever played, not a massive list compared to some however. Walking through the gap in the wall after playing the first three is an experience.
16th is the par 3. I’ve had an ace there.Par 3 (3rd?) down the hill is
The par 3 near the end (16?/17th?)is superb - very tough with the wind coming right off the coast…and the views![]()
It should be in fab condition and the rough will be beginning to get up a bit.I'm there (and others) in June. Not been for 20 years, looking forward the it.

Plenty room down the first fairway. More than 100 yards wide in total. Awesome tee shot that. The view of the town and the sea is sublime.Shaking like a dog doing his business on that par 3, cars to the left and the clubhouse right, I think. Duff one down there, put me down for a 4 and let me out to sea.
Don't know if you've ever played North Berwick Glen but the 18th is flanked by the road and has cars parked all down it. Driver stayed in the bag for all 3 of us, 7 iron aiming waaaaay left.
And that's exactly where we aimed. I couldn't risk it with my slice.Plenty room down the first fairway. More than 100 yards wide in total. Awesome tee shot that. The view of the town and the sea is sublime.

Not played the Glen, but this description sounds like the West links at NB.
That is a lovely finishing hole with the clubhouse behind, very reminiscent of the old course. I nearly drove the green with my 3 wood. My mate sliced OOB but got a lovely bounce off a car back on to the fairway![]()
I've been lucky enough to play there once. You can't miss the fact that the golf course is there and you are parked in a vulnerable position. You know the score, you know the risk. No one will aim to hit a car but if you park there.............Leave a note on the car, "sorry about the dent, but thanks for helping me make par."
I assume there are signs to that effect so it doesn't come back on the club as being liable?I've been lucky enough to play there once. I don't know and ultimately I don't know if that would work. I assume there have been enough incidents over the years that a procedure is in place, either insurance or tough luck. With the amount of traffic going through there each day it must be a common occurrence.I assume there are signs to that effect so it doesn't come back on the club as being liable?
