Continually bombarded with offers on golf insurance.
Questions-
Should I bother my arse with it?
Does house insurance cover golf clubs when you are away from home golfing?
Does car insurance cover stolen golf clubs?
Which is the cheapest and best golf insurance company?
Has anyone actually made a claim for breaking a car windscreen or house window or knocking someone out with a ball etc - any good stories please?

My dads clubs were stolen from his locker in the club house, and the house insurance paid out ok. I think they are covered by the house insurance as sports equipment (you may not have this clause in the small print), but I think it only covers equipment during transit, and use, not if abandoned outside the club house. Not sure where lockers fit in.

Obviously house insurance doesn't insure for personal damage, or liability if you hit someone.

Car insurance covers squat.

Specialist insurance seems expensive to me, for what you get. Although since golfers are now responsible for the damage caused by wayward balls (the person hit used to have to prove malice aforethought), and my course has a lot of footpaths, perhaps it is justified as I tend to spray balls around quite a bit.
Our secretary has a bad habit of telling people to park by the practice green when the car park is full, which is next to the eighteenth fairway. Only a short shank from trouble.

Travel insurance is good when you go abroad, because airlines pay out at £16 per kilo if they loose luggage. This does not buy many golf clubs. This limit was set in 1945, and has never been changed.

I've got liability on my travel insurance at no extra cost and have put my clubs on my home insurance, listing my expensive clubs like my driver etc.

I looked into specialist insurance because I was worried about leaving my golf bag outside the pro shop etc but they won't pay out if it get stolen so thought it was a waste of time.

I went ahead and bought golf insurance recently but was mildly aghast to read that in order to insure my clubs against theft I need to take my clubs to my proshop and have him write a headed letter to the insurers saying what clubs I have and what value they are. They obviously dont trust golfers themselves to say what clubs they have. Having never bought anything in my proshop other than a snickers I doubt my club pro will be especialy accomodating!
Lesson learned, dont bother with golf insurance!

That's so bad. The home insurance people don't come round to your house with a clipboard listing the contents of your house!
