Off to Frome for a week in August. Looking at local golf courses, Frome Golf Club and Orchardleigh are the obvious ones for a round or two. Has anyone got any local knowledge or advice on alternatives?

I live in Weston-super-mare which is about an hour away and I would recommend Burnham & Berrow GC, Weston-super-mare GC (links course right on the beach....literally), Mendip Springs GC (lots of water and par 5's) and I always enjoy playing Tall Pines GC which is right next to bristol airport. If the weather is nice Worlebury GC is well worth a look but it suffers if it's been raining.

I hope that helps and enjoy your week.

Orchardleigh is a good summer track. my old man is a member. Good parkland test a bit of water and some tough holes. Frome is great socially by all accounts, but the course not so good. Some good but some very ordinary holes. I'd play Orchardleigh over Frome every day

As above by all accounts the best course in Somerset is Burnham & Berrow, or there is Cumberwell in Bradford on Avon which is worth a trip.

You are welcome to come & have a game at my place in Bristol, it's not far from Frome.

Filton, yes this is a nice established club. I worked at BAE Filton for many years.

The Bristol area has some nice courses: Filton, Henbury, Shirehampton, Bristol & Clifton, Long Ashton, Clevedon, The Players Club, Bristol Golf Club, to mention a few.

I'm thinking about entering the Enmore Park scratch event, is that course any good?
