Very perceptive thecraw... not! Look at what I said earlier

it was a genuine question. We've researched our customers but the results are inconclusive. We also asked our hotel and golf course managers who tell us what we already know i.e. bookings are down. The key question is why? A friend suggested I post the question in the hope that there are some regular golf travellers out there who may have the answer.

If my mate had known you'd get in such a huff about it all, I'd bet he wouldn't have suggested it. Anyway my post was aimed at golf travellers and as you don't sound like one why did you send a reply?

Consider me gone.... for the moment. My next post will be a competition titled 'who can start an argument in an empty room?'

Any bets on who the winner will be?

pcowgill was polite and well mannered! So lay off. If every body else carried the same decorum as him on this forum it would be a better place!

So its ok to come on and pedal your wares if your polite?

Its a blatent plug for his company. Portugal is number one golf resort for a reason. Why come on pretending your sales are down if its not a bloomin plug.

Why else is there a link to it??????

PS. I have never once claimed it was my forum and I do believe this is the first time I've got on my high horse. Sneaky marketing and advertising.

Mate, calm down! What harm has he done you?

And so what if he has a footer with his website on....Several other forum members have.

Just cool yourself, go for a cold shower or something.

You are scaring people off, to coin a phrase "this is a local forum for local people" and EVERYBODY is welcome to their say as long as its non offensive, sexist, racist, homophobic or a one off stupidly boring plug.

Please respect this forum as you would your club house and respect what people say.

Thankyou.

Sneaky marketing and advertising.

Maybe or maybe not, but you can quite easily just not reply or even not read the thread again if you don't like it. Saves all the, sorry to say, whiney posts/threads. Even in my short time on this forum seem to be in quite a large volume.

I have to agree with 'thecraw' on this one guys. It was a blatant plug. All other such 'advertising' posts have provoked similar responses in the past.

Personally i've no objection with people wishing to advertise their golfing services on a site like this. However there needs to be a dedicated 'classifieds' area within the forum with which to place such a post. I think the thread a while back re developing the forum touched on this very subject.

Not sure what others opinions are on the matter are but thought i'd share my thoughts.

I do respect what people have to say but I cant be @rsed with some billy big boots look at me and come and buy a holiday from me person blatently hawking.

May I quote a certain htl who posted on the 10th of January 2008 at 0835hrs

Good to have another Spurs fan on here! And go away the idiot trying to flog some Vila or whatever it is.

So its ok to now accept somebody selling and advertising their holiday business but it wasnt ok for someone last month to offer out their villa for rental???? I think you may be the friend who recommended comming on here.

Bottom line is the link is a plug. Pay golf monthly to advertise in the magazine or keep stum!

A bit confusing there DHM,'I agree with Craw' then 'I don't have a problem with people advertising'
You either like it or don't or maybe it's best if we all sit on the fence and keep the peace.

Sorry Dodge, have just read it back and yes it is a bit conflicting. I think you get a rough idea of what point I was trying to make.

Anyway, let’s draw a vale over this one as even I’m getting bored with it now.

Just logged on to check my post. Blimey – didn’t realise it would create such a fuss. But I agree, it’s best to draw a line under the whole thing.

Thanks to those who offered genuine advice to a genuine question. Despite a public lambasting from one person in particular, I enjoyed the forum and (to quote the Governor of California) “I’ll be back”.

However, for the moment “Mr Billy Big Boots, I Own My Own Company” has to go because someone is waiting for him in the car park.

It’s either…..

1)My chauffeur who is going to whisk me away in the company ‘limo’ to the nearest airport where a private jet is waiting to fly me out to my 12 berth yacht (currently moored in Antibes) and where, on arrival, I will mobbed by a harem of bikini clad beauties desperate for my return.

or

2)The wife wanting to do the weekend shopping at Tesco (damn…another blatant advert!!) …..

……I’ll leave you to pick the right option.

Bye all

OK ... now that the dust has settled, I'll chuck in my bit.

We are fortunate enough to have a timeshare in Vilamoura, hence have played a fair bit of golf in the Algarve. What we have noticed is that there has been an explosion in development - especially at the Millenium/Laguna/Victoria complex - over the last three years or so, and a definite increase in prices at the Vilamoura courses, although having the property does entitle us to discount on them. It seems that the company who own Vilamoura - Oceanico - have decided to go up-market a bit with some of their own developments as well as allowing other groups to move in as well; personally, I think the eyesore of a Hilton hotel at the Pinhal course was a very bad move !
Whether this has been a good idea remains to be seen, but it would not surprise me if the booking figures have started to tail off a bit - who wants to pay a lot of money to play next to a building site ?
