FWIW I’ve also only been playing since September 2022 and I’ve been using a set of game improvement irons from 20 years ago and added a couple of newer, still used, hybrids and a forgiving driver off eBay. The advice I’ve been given ( Like a few have suggested already, plus my instructor) is to use those clubs a lot to figure out your swing/fundamentals then see how course performance/accuracy/consistency is looking especially as the weather gets better and take a decision then.

If you’re an average height a standard set would be good for starting out. I last had custom fit irons in 2006 and I was standard lie, length and I’ve not grown since.
