Golf Fitness Do you or Don't you??

I've been going back to the gym regularly for about 3 months now, nothing golf specific although we do concentate on quite a lot of core exercises which are, by popular opinion, beneficial for golf.

If the extra conditioning brings me a few extra yards come next season I will be most pleased.

Agreed, strengthening of your core muscles and improving your general flexibility are of infinitely more benefit than pushing weights at the gym. Any cardiovascular exercise coupled with core strength exercises should see an improvement in your golf.

Have never considered any exercise other than playing the game itself. I just have a couple of stratches and hit plenty of 'air' shots beforehand to loosen up my back and shoulders, then play. The golf itself has been the best exercise. Just through playing golf as my only exercise (carrying a bag for 4 months of the year) I've taken 4 inches off my waist in the last 18 months.

I have never had a weight problem. 5ft 6ins. 9.5 stone. its never changed since i was 17. I have just come back to golf this year after neck 3 discs gone, and shoulder keeps popping out, injurys. I have come back to golf to get some fitness back. Found I got out of puff so now walk everywhere if I can and leave the car at home. Have started to work on just the golf muscles. Doing a lot of work on wrists and forarms. As hand speed is the key to clubhead speed. You can have a slow swing with good hand speed and knock the ball miles further. Than someone who trys to knock the skin off the ball but with poor hand speed.
