Another month and no golf.

The new job has put pay to any evening golf, which just leaves the weekends. I only get to see the sprogs just before they go to bed during the week and consequently I get the guilt trip if I want to try and get out at the weekend. Wife says that I could go to the driving range late in the evening, but it's just not the same.

How do you chaps who work long hours all week and have young families get around this? Do you just claim 'your' time and that's that and live with the ball ache or do you get a pass graciously given to you?

The wife also works on Sundays, so I have kiddy time then, which leaves Saturdays. It's not as if the mrs wants to spend time with me on the Saturday, so it's purely a guilt trip and control as I see it.

Do you get away with it under sufferance, or are you just blessed?

I need to get out and have a game. I just can't see how. Or am I just being a selfish bloke?

Sorry. Just need to let of a bit of steam.

I use golf as an excuse for exercise and socialising, 4 hours a week isn't asking for much, although I get home early enough to see the kids most evenings.

How about playing early Saturday mornings? You can tee off at 6'30, be home by ten and spend the rest of the day with the family.

Yesterday my wife saw I was a bit bored so she got my mobile and text'd my mate and asked him if he wanted a game unbeknown to me. So that was 3 games in 3 days.

I know how that feels, my wife works 1 day, sometimes 1 and a half days at the weekend. I can play the Sat or Sun morning when she isnt working but if I do I dont end up seeing her much. So I often miss weekend play.

I normally have a couple of weekday evenings free that I can get out to play but that is about to change now with the nights drawing in.

I prefer to play with a clear conscience and that means making sacrifices and not over doing the golf.

HID is normally ok about me playing golf aslong as i drop her at one of her freinds first so she isnt stuck in bored.

HH,

I have just moved to Verwood but will be dropping my daughter off at brownies in west moors on thursday evenings then heading to ferndown forest driving range if you fancy joining me.

Also you are welcome to play a round at moors valley with me on saturdays if you can find a way to get out.

I live in a house with 4 women (1 wife and 3 daughters) so she does understand i do need a bit of "man time". So one evening in the week and Sunday morning i do go out with her blessing. :D

i dont have a familly, but being in the forces, whilst im in the uk, im only home at weekends when im not away or working.this is the only time i see my girlfriend (who is a medic in the forces so shes away a bit too!), i used to get the guilt treatment, and did actually feel guilty when i wanted to play golf on a sat afternoon. now i just play at sunrise or 20 mins before. usually home by half 9 (depending on what time i start, but usually try for 0645). that leaves the rest of the day for us.we have breakfast etc together when i get in and then go about our day!

I'm in the same situation, I think / hoping that things will balance out and you'll be playing a regular Saturday AM game and possibly a couple of nights at the driving range or 9 hole course.

I tend to get up and tee off at 6ish so I can get the game out of the way leaving the rest of the day for family time, sometimes I'll sneak in a Sunday am as well, but might be 9 holes and it'd be 6am tee time.

Alternatively tell her your boss has asked you out for the game, then technically your working aren't you!!

Cheers
Andy

Club prebooks the course saturday morning until 11:30 so it's normally between then and 12:30.

Thursdays i will be at the driving range from about 6:45 until 7:45.

Tim. I'll see what I can get past hid. Thursdays will be straight from work. The advantage of Moors Valley is that it's not far to go at all, unlike East Horton. So it will be less time out, the downside is it's the middle of the day. God, I sound miserable, I'm not like it most of the time! Thanks for the offer.

Now I have the problem of getting to the golf course. Being a student, not many people of my age play golf, and look down on this amazing sport! Living quite a distance from my local course, also provides a stumbling block, as unless I go with my old man, who works very long days, its almost near impossible to fit a game in!

We are a one car family so as long as HID gets the car by dropping me off and picking me up so she can go off and do her own thing she's pretty happy for me to play as and when. Granted we don't have kids (sadly) and so we don't have to factor those in but by and large we both seem pretty happy as we are in terms of the amount of golf I play

I'm in a similar position, young daughter and a fair commute to work so rarely home before 6.30ish, which is bath/bottle/bed time (not for me! :))

Midweek golf is pretty much done for me now with the light not lasting much past 8.

I do sometimes get the guilt trip for playing on a Saturday afternoon however I encouraged the good lady to go out as much as she wants in the week with friends, to the gym etc and I would deal with things at home. That way we both get our own time plus any non-golf time at the weekend is spent as a family.

Not easy and you have my sympathy. What works for one one couple/family might not for others so I hope you manage to find the right balance for you and yours.

I am afraid I know what your going through!
I changed jobs and now do 12h shifts, so when I get home at 7pm (when on days) I struggle to motivate myself to go to the range or course etc as the bairns are up til 7.30/8pm so try and get even half hour with them.
Only off every other weekend, so I play saturdays, I have sunday as a family day when I am off, only play occaisional sundays, after deliberating with the wife!
I am quite lucky in that I get some time through the week to play or practice, but it is still tough to find a game etc
Good luck in getting there, is a sat morn no good? I used to play at 8 am and be home by lunch time.
