Golf courses in race courses

I haven't played it but Northumberland GC is inside Newcastle race course, Gosforth. Expensive and posh by all accounts.

There is another course directly outside the race course, Parklands, but Northumberland is actually inside it.
Northumberland is an excellent course with really good greens. Used for Open Regional qualifying in the recent past. The holes weave in & out of the racecourse. Not as posh as it was. Can't be, they let one of my mates in ?

I use the range in Sandown Park which is one of the better ones around and allows 55 ball buckets.
The course, 9 hole par 3 looks flat, open, uninspiring.
They also have a shorter course where I think I could try and throw the ball from tee to green.
Overall probably a real beginners paradise.

There used to be one in my hole town in Germany where there where at least some horse obstacles in the middle which might have impacted the course.

Heard a horrible tale about that place, probably a load of balls but not one to repeat on here ?
I'll have to remind you to tell me next time we play ?.

It's also our regional course for the apocryphal story about ladies complaining about swearing on the terrace and subsequently being banned. I've heard it quoted for there by a few people but I've also heard the tale from other parts of the country as well ?. I guess every county has one of those courses.

Played there a couple of times wearing jeans in the early 1980s, so not "posh" as I remember it. Good course.

fond memories of Oadby golf course (not there anymore), half of it was inside Leics racecourse, used to go there to play when at Uni in Loughborough. Had my first HIO there too with one of the worst shots youll see haha
Re-opened as a 9-hole pay-and-play, but only the holes outside the race track.

There's a story that, at one time, there was a sign which said "no ladies or dogs past this point". I also heard that ladies were banned from walking past the lounge windows because every time one did the "gentlemen" members felt obliged to stand up. Certainly a club with a lot of tradition.

Lansdown GC overlooking Bath isn’t inside the racecourse but being adjacent it’s certainly impacted on race days. Its a lovely track with splendid views.

Personally think it is bland and flat, a few quirky holes like the par 3 over the wall but nothing to shout about - and it is always foggy whenever I have played there!:(

Apart from four tees all of the Newmarket course is surrounded by the Jockey Club training gallops.
Plus you can hit a ball into the next county from the 1st tee.
Plus two Racecourses are just across the road.

Caister and Salisbury I have played and recommend.

Mind you at Caister you seriously have to block out the Racecourse and huge caravan parks. If you just focus on the golf course you will find it a decent course.
Mind you 2.....must be 42 years since I played it.

Many years ago I did a couple of weeks training in Newbury. Didn't know anyone and the rest were driving in & out each day. Sure there was a golf course with the race course, probably wasn't great but it beat evenings in a hotel room.

It was what it was, a cheap hack. It wasn't terrible and actually was kept in pretty decent nick. No longer there, middle of the course is now a driving range on non race days, but its uncovered and horrible in the middle of the course in anything other than perfect conditions! Got my best ever round there though! I was +6 gross which was about -12!!!
