Golf & Country Clubs nr Sheffield

Evening All,
Can anyone recommend a decent golf hotel nr Sheffield & the M1. I'm looking at venues for next years golf do already. We usually do a Sunday Driver package at one of the big hotel chains but it doesn't have to be a chain.

Anyone got any suggestions??

If you are prepared to travel a little then go to Woodhall Spa near Lincoln...well worth the travel, lots of places to stay and quite simply one of the best courses in the world!

I am from Sheffield originally and the best courses in the area were and I guess still are: Hallamshire GC, Abbeydale GC, Hallowes GC and Sickleholme GC. I don't know of any places near Sheffield that have hotel plus golf in the same location but I am sure there are some. Also, I am about 20 years out of touch when it comes to Sheffield golf so please bear that in mind!

Other notable courses are Hillsborough, Phoenix, Renishaw and Sitwell.

Further afield, you have Worksop, Torksey and as mentioned Woodhall.

To be honest, I would go somewhere else. Leeds, York and Nottingham have much better courses nearby. For example, stay near Nottingham and you could play Hollinwell, Sherwood Forest and Lindrick. All excellent. Stay in Leeds and you could do Moortown, Fulford and Alwoodley - all terrific tracks.

Of the above, Hollinwell is the best with the exception of Woodhall which is world-class.
