Golf club recommendations in Woking area

My mate was looking at West Hill 2 years ago and it was circa £1400 per year but I think it and the other better ones may want 3 times that as entry fees (Hankley is certainly that).

I think Worplesdon and Woking are 2-ball courses for much, although not all, of the time.

Camberley Heath is a bit dearer on subs but much cheaper on the joining fee. I would look there or North Hants or West Hill - but you won't get a big driving range at any of these courses. I think North Hants is nearer 1k than 1.5k.

Foxhills is around 2.5k per year

You need to set a budget and then find out what fits. The 20 minute distance wil also depend on what side of Woking you live - Hindhead may also sneak into that mix depending on where you live.

Choose from the 3 W's, West Hill, Worplesdon, and Woking. I personally would go for West Hill.

any idea (ballpark) on membership price?

Pure guesswork, but I'd say minimum £2k joining, £1.5k annual.

I looked at West Hill last year, it was about £1500. I can't remember if they were waiving the joining fee or not.

Also Woking is a 2-ball course for 6 days of the week.

Hi,

I am looking at joining a decent members club in the Woking & surrounding areas - there are quite a lot of great courses there. I would like somewhere that has decent practice facilities too. Any recommendations?

Cheers

Did you join anywhere?
I am now thinking of joining.. Being checking out some of the courses.. Hoebridge, West Byfleet, Pyrford, Traditions, Chobham, Sutton Green etc. Havent made up my mind.
Let me know your experience..

You're more that welcome to wander over to my place and have a look. Check out the website as they do open days where you can have a look round, meet the captain etc and play 9 holes.

Homer... very kind.. Ascot is a bit out of the way.. but definitly on my list to come over and try and knock a few balls. PS: Like the idea of an open day.. Will take up the offer later this year..

Recently played Bramley Golf Club, just outside Guildford.
Had a really great time.
The course was in magnificent condition.
There is a covered driving range, practice bunkers, chipping practice area & putting green......................really good facilities.
Friendly pro as well. In fact all the staff were friendly & very welcoming.
Worth checking out before you make a decision.

Good advice from Paul.

I was a member at Foxhills for a couple of years and if I was you, I would give it a miss. Not a proper members club really but good if you want gym, pool and tennis.

Hankley, Hindhead and West Hill are great members clubs and it would be a pleasure to be at any of them.

My thoughts exactly.

I played in Westhill.. it is a beauty and would love to be part of it. Though it is my #1 choice, not sure if the ticket prize is affordable. Chobham is my #2 choice for members club

Also, the chief reason for me to join a club is to play a lot of courses... the social side is a big plus. Hence thinking about Crown golf which has Pyrford, Traditions, Merrist W etc and you can play anywhere.

Might be a wee bit further but one of my old club's is Puttenham, a lovely club with a friendly membership.
Four miles past Guildford just off the Hogsback. Probably better VFM in that posh boys area.
Very good winter course.

I played at Woking GC just after Easter, we played on a day ticket and played in a 4 ball morning and afternoon. Offered to let a members 2 ball through. But they declined saying they weren't in a rush and to just enjoy ourselfs.

I could very happily play that course every day. Great greens, lovely fairways and some interesting holes!!

Paperboy, I would not mind checking out Woking. Have heard a lot and is about a 3-wood drive away from home. However, need someone to sign you in, and not sure if they have any memberships available. Still looking for someone who would let us play an 18 holer.

Traditions GC is a very, very tricky little pay & play. Merrist Wood has a decent open driving range but the green aren’t as good as Trad imo.

Have played Traditions and Merrist. Traditions have a group of very friendly pros and probably one of the best Par 3s (the 3rd hole?) in a pay n play in the area.
Merrist looks caught between pay n play + members, but some very good holes too.

IMHO, Merrist better than Traditions for golf, but Traditions is much better in value.

I think Hobridge probably has the best driving range in the area, great value. I play there very often, just not sure if it is a membership type place - if you know what i mean. Dont get me wrong, I owe all my golf to Hoebridge, Shey and Maybury

Oh, don't forget Queenwood in Ottershaw...........I've not played there, but I hear it's very good .
Not sure what the fees are, although there is a joining fee I believe.

Slime.

P.S. If you join there, please invite me for a game.

Another really nice course that hasn't been mentioned is North Hants which is just about in your 20 min catchment area. Think the fees are reasonable there.
