Golf Club loses half its members due to HS2

Heathrow was good for the area now I believe it isn't and the sooner its gone the better....

Heathrow isn't good for the area?? You're having a laugh!! It probably employs 100,000 locals. Gatwick has about 50,000 the whole area is here because of it, not the other way round.

It was in West Drayton because of Heathrow and provided good employment for local people now its gone those jobs have gone with it... As I said originally... Heathrow was good for the area now I believe it isn't and the sooner its gone the better....

Gotcha: their relocation to Swanwick. They still employ plenty of people at Heathrow. In addition to the other 250,000 people directly or indirectly employed there.

Feel free to open a new thread regarding the benefits of Heathrow or any other topic that is being discussed and let this thread stay on topic please.

Pathetic argument.

I'm sure there was stuff lost when they built Heathrow.... should we not have had it?

Maybe we should have opted to stay in the Stone Age. Damn those train tracks that sliced our Country into bits and bought food/supplies/work to the masses!! :p

Everything has to move on, everything has to be improved/upgraded, sometimes it happens on 'our patch' and we don't like it, too bad for you this time.... next time it'll probably be me (sod's law).

It's not a pathetic argument when the line effects peoples lives - and that's what HS2 will do to a lot of people along the route - people who won't be able to use it

The line improves the travel time between two cities by a matter of minutes.

It is a massive waste of tax payers money without even thinking of what it will do to peoples lives and the countryside - let alone golf courses

A fair enough opinion that would likely be different if you worked there earning £150,000 p/a as an air traffic controller :p

Edit after seeing mods post

I'm sure the M25 cost a few people their houses and some of those people don't even drive!!!!!

As I said......

Did it really ? Well that's a new revelation - how many houses were cost by the M25 ?

The HS2 will always only be for people from London or Brum - there is no comparison between the M25 and the HS2

But I guess if it was effecting your life then the attitude maybe slightly different

The benefits of the HS2 don't outweigh the negative or the effect it will have on peoples lives.

I don’t believe for one minute that a golf club has lost half its members because of HS2. Who asked them all? Who carried out the survey?

It’s almost as ridiculous as the comments on here that HS2 is just about getting to Birmingham 12 minutes quicker.

I understand the second phase of HS2 runs through part of my golf club. There is no evidence of mass exodus. It’s a long way off, if it happens at all

It’s of no surprise that support for HS2 is greatest in the North, the job and economic development prospects are enormous

Possibly maybe not.... But 'muni man' isn't getting a fair deal in these parts at the moment...

My issue is the loss of great amenities, to the local community, with nothing offered in return... And, I am not just talking about the golf course...

I think hs2 will improve our dire rail newtwork but its only natural for people to oppose such projects when it affects them. one of the most famous carp fishing lakes In the country was closed down to make way for hs2. Such a shame and Sooooooo many good memories as a kid.
But things change and move on. One thing i've learnt is the government will do what the hell they like so you can protest and put as many banners up as you like. IT WONT MANY ANY DIFFERENCE.

It improves the connection between two cities ( at the moment )

What about all the other rail links en route ? It just by passes every single town and city along the route.

The plight of Ruislip Golf Club was covered in the latest edition of Golf News. With planning blight and little chance of a satisfactory long term solution, many members have left to join other clubs. The course there is totally surrounded by housing, so there is no chance of moving a few holes sideways onto open ground. At best it will end up as a nine hole course. At worst it will be sold off for development.

If enough marginal constituencies are involved they might not!
