I'm new to this golfing malarkey and got a 2nd hand set of clubs off a friend bout 6 months ago and was just wondering about club length. I've been trawling the Internet and have found loads of sites with charts saying how tall vs floor to wrist length is the way to find out and I'm jut wondering if you take these measurements in golf shoes or without. I know that may seem a bit anal but I'd like to get it right first time. I know I should really go and get them properly fitted but I feel I can sort this myself.
Any info would be appreciated

Remember that the reason it's 'with shoes' is to simulate the actual swing conditions, so without spikes, because they will be in the ground. Which equals normal shoes/trainers.

At your height, I believe it's worth getting measured to check whether standard is ok or maybe a little longer. Current irons tend to be half inch longer than those of a few years ago (38" vs 37.7" 5-iron) too.

as long as you have the shoes on, or off, for both measurements it really won't matter - obviously if you are 4ft tall and wear 6" golf platforms it will a bit....:)

If you are new to golf, why not measure a few of your clubs and compare them to one of the manufacturers sites under club specifications.

For example, if your 6 iron is around the Mizuno length of 37.25" then you are in the right region.

I have two sets of irons, they are 1/2" shorter in the Callaway than the Mizuno and also 1 degree more upright.

There will be arguments about it, but at 6.1" I think you'll be fine with anything provided they're not too short or too flat.
