Hi

I will be having my interview for membership at my local course soon in front of 3 (Capt, Sec and one other member). Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions on what to avoid so I don't drop myself in the proverbial?

My last job interview was only with two and they weren't looking to take money off me

The link below is where I am looking to go.

Thanks Golf club web site

In this day and age I'm afraid I'd be asking them more searching questions than they will ask me. The club needs new members, it needs the income, so to make sure you are joining the right place you should be asking them some questions to give yourself some comfort in your decision to join.

Just turn up, be polite, speak clearly and answer their questions then ask your own questions.

I wouldn't worry I had mine a couple of weeks ago and flew through it. They need members these days and unless you are applying to a top course the days of black balling members is well gone. Just be yourself and don't mention the axe murdering until you are in.

As DCB says, remember you're the customer. It's your money they're after.

I'd be surprised if it wasn't more of a "welcome to the club, here's how we do things here" meeting rather than a formal interview.

Do wear a suit or a jacket, collar and tie.

Good luck.
:D

I think it's also for you to know if it feels comfortable. I was invited to 'afternoon tea' with the ladies at one club I was considering. they were outwardly friendly and there was little I could fault, but I didn't feel particularly welcome - maybe something to do with me! But I wouldn't have felt right stumping up the money.

Ask them some questions like are your medals drawn, how do I get to play club matches, can you tell me about the social side etc. Show you're willing to get involved and it'll be a breeze.

Hagley eh? I knew a few from there. :)

Just don't do what I did and start an argument over semantics.

What like what's Black Country and what's Brum? I'm a Geordie so can plead total ignorance?

or is there something more?

Homer

Many thanks. I expect to be playing at weekends more and hope that the competition side is active and open; I might be crap but I need to know that I can turn up and play and learn!!

I'll take some crib notes

I remember when I went for my interview.
The secretary was trying to push the "social" side to me and said "You'll love Monday nights Robert, we have a poker evening in the main bar, you'll be welcome along"
"I don't gamble" I replied.
"Oh never mind" he said, "You'll love Tuesday nights. We lock the doors and get a few lap dancers in. It's great"
"I'm not into that to be honest" I said.
"Christ Man, you're not queer are you?" he said.
"NO I AM NOT" I replied....

"That's a shame, you won't like Wednesday nights either"
