Golf and metrication

Gads forsooth, what is this... this met er ric you speak of? Is it something Jonny Foreigner has devised to try and confuse good stout English gentlemen?

Drive it out I say!

Cry, "England, Harry and St George!"

I like the temperature units people use and how they flip from Celcius to Fahrenheit. I am convinced that some people think that zero degrees when it's cold weather and 80 degrees when it's hot weather are the same units.

I guess they're going to conform to Europe.... Mostly over here we are metric... Before I joined our course it was also metric.... Any of the courses I plyed here through the summer are also in metres.... Its easy covert one to the other roughly.... Say an example.... 150 yards.... Take the first 2 numbers as a whole.. take them from 150.... So its 150-15=135mtrs.... Its a rough estimate but is accurate enough to use on the course quickly...

Sheeeeeesh! The government of the day made the decision in the 1970's to go metric, EVERYTHING!!!!, but as usual were to wimpy to follow it through and still are. I was taught in metric and do my best to use it all the time. I even use it in the butchers. Me, "500gms of mince please". Butcher "Er so how much is that then that then?" Me with blank look "Well it's approximately...500gms I think". What the hell are we clinging to the other way for? Stop messing about. Go to the EU, ask for a couple of billion euros and swap EVEYTHING over with immediate effect. We managed to convert to the money as it was forced on us, and if the measuring system was, then we would cope with that too. All of Europe managed to switch to the Euro easy enough and embrace all new technology, surely we're as capable as them? We are being left behind. It's time we woke up to this.

Exactly how are we being left behind? Sure, it would make sense that we had one unit of measurement but we are hardly being left behind as a result.

You seem to be slightly confusing using different units of measurement of weight, distance etc with changing currencies. I fully agree that we should go to euros myself as it will make life a lot easier. But changing to Euros from pounds is a whole different argument than changing to metres from yards.

Ah the euro!

I am amazed that, in the light of recent history, anyone could still think it a good idea for us to forsake sterling in return for the euro.

And before you ask :- a) I am not a member of UKIP
b) I do not believe we should withdraw from the EU
c) And I certainly do not read the Daily Mail

He's not saying go to the Euro at all, he's saying we managed to switch sterling to metric. But we half assed it and didn't do everything else.
